Department Information
The Department of Exercise Science and Sport Management is comprised of diverse faculty representing a broad range of robust scholarship and a strong record of community engagement and professional service. The Department offers undergraduate degrees in Exercise Science and Sport Management as well as graduate degrees in Exercise Science and Orthotics and Prosthetics. Additionally, the Department offers a minor in Nutrition Science.

The WellStar College of Health and Human Services is a dynamic and diverse college composed of four academic units: the Department of Social Work and Human Services, the Department of Exercise Science and Sport Management, the Department of Health Promotion and Physical Education and the WellStar School of Nursing. The College also houses the Academy for Inclusive Learning and Social Growth and the Continuing Education Division. The WellStar College occupies a $60 million Health Science Building (Prillaman Hall). This LEED-certified, state-of-the-art building provides a quality facility of almost 200,000 square feet. It is a college on the move making significant contributions to excellence in education, community service (both locally and globally), and scholarship.

Job Summary
Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a twelve-month administrative faculty position as a tenured Professor and Chair of the Department of Exercise Science and Sport Management (ESSM) in the Wellstar College of Health and Human Services beginning July 1, 2022.

The Wellstar College of Health and Human Services seeks a visionary and effective leader to become the next Chair of the Department of Exercise Science and Sport Management.

The chair reports directly to the Dean and provides academic and administrative leadership to a dynamic and growing department of 22 multidisciplinary full-time faculty and approximately 1,800 students enrolled in the graduate and undergraduate programs. The chair leads the Department of Exercise Science and Sport Management to support the vision and mission of the university by prioritizing a student-centered and research-driven educational experience while building partnerships with our community stakeholders.

Responsibilities
The Department seeks a leader who can expand and promote innovative undergraduate and graduate programs. The primary responsibilities of the Chair include, but are not limited to:
    providing oversight and advancement of the Department's programs, students, and faculty; supporting a transparent shared governance environment; managing and allocating resources; reviewing and managing the Department's budget; working with external advisory boards; overseeing accreditation processes.

Required Qualifications
The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate, or its foreign equivalent, in exercise science, kinesiology, sport management, or other closely related field, with an academic background and appropriate credentials to be a tenured professor in an academic department in the Wellstar College of Health and Human Services at KSU.

Preferred Qualifications
The successful candidate should
    Be a strong, innovative, and strategic visionary with empowering, democratic team-building and interpersonal skills; Have the ability to promote the vision and mission of the Department, College, and the University; Have diverse professional experience supporting the administrative role. These include, taking leadership in strategic planning, managing budgets, managing personnel, allocating resources, maintaining accreditations, seeking external funding, building community collaborations, and promoting faculty scholarship. The Chair also serves as an instructional leader who maintains a record of teaching effectiveness and scholarly achievement.

The successful candidate should also have the following:
    A demonstrated history of strong, decisive leadership working with faculty, students, staff, administrators, and external stakeholders. A breadth of direct working knowledge providing oversight and fiscal responsibility relative to departmental or college budget management. The ability to foster a culture of trust, transparency, and collegiality while serving as an advocate for the mission and values of the Department. Demonstrated high-level interpersonal skills for communication, consultation, and collaboration. Experience with collaborating and mentoring faculty in interdisciplinary setting(s).
  • A scholarship agenda that contributes to the Department's efforts to prioritize a student-centered and research-driven educational experience.
  • Experience promoting, supporting, and creating infrastructure to support the ESSM Department's efforts to obtain external funding and conduct community-based, interdisciplinary research, within and beyond the University as reflected in KSU's R2 Roadmap.
