Job Details

Inside Higher Ed seeks an experienced, enterprising reporter to explore the many ways that technology and other innovations are reshaping an industry in transition.

The reporter covers a wide range of issues focused on how these forces are altering the student experience and how colleges operate –and cultural as well as practical implications of those changes. Just a few of the issues on this reporter's agenda: the continuing spread of online (and blended) education, technology privacy and security, colleges' experiments (with and without technology) to help students navigate through college, and the emergence of new digital credentials (at traditional institutions and alternative education providers).

Inside Higher Ed engages in authoritative journalism that provides a mix of news, enterprise and analysis. Our audience depends on us to help them understand not only what's happening, but why it matters (or should) to them. Our reporters mix beat reporting, analysis and creative approaches to telling stories; candidates should be able to juggle multiple articles at once, and should like to dig deeply and to learn. Candidates should have at least three years of full-time professional reporting experience; a background covering technology and/or higher education is a plus.

Inside Higher Ed publishes breaking news, features, commentary, blogs and other content (including audio and video) each weekday, and has quickly established itself as an authoritative, independent voice for its 2.5 million unique monthly users and 275,000 e-mail subscribers.

Inside Higher Ed offers competitive pay, good benefits (including heavily subsidized health, dental and life insurance premiums), and 18 days' paid time off plus federal holidays. Centrally located in downtown D.C.; hybrid work arrangements possible.

To apply, please email jobs@insidehighered.com with your résumé, a cover letter outlining your interest in this role, and five clips that show your range and your ability to make the complicated clear.

Inside Higher Ed is committed to diversity in the workplace and is an equal opportunity employer. We are unable to sponsor visa holders for this position. No contract opportunities available.

Reporters at Inside Higher Ed are represented by the Washington-Baltimore News Guild.
