Social Media Manager/Digital Engagement Strategist

Description
The Office of University Relations is responsible for all official public communication regarding the Office of the President, which includes responding to requests from the news media for information, interviews and official statements. The office also directs the president's community tours and outreach, manages the president's regional business and community councils and oversees the university's special events and outreach with targeted communities. University Relations also produces the weekly CU Connections, news and information for CU Faculty and Staff, oversees the systemwide branding initiative and the implementation of an online alumni communications tool, among many other print, web and social media projects.

Position Summary
The Social Media Manager/Digital Engagement Strategist implements the University of Colorado System’s Social Media Strategy, developing brand awareness, generating inbound traffic and encouraging engagement and knowledge about the university. The CU System is currently pursuing a brand refresh that seeks to elevate CU’s four campuses and celebrate the different experiences found on each. 

This position will play an important role in helping to build that new brand. This position is responsible for developing and overseeing the execution of strategic social media and digital initiatives for the system, working collaboratively with the campus social media teams to create and leverage content that advances the university’s mission. 

This position will take a university-wide view of social media and work collaboratively with the campuses to elevate their brands and reach diverse audiences of stakeholders. This includes developing a social media plan for the system’s high-profile channels, managing social media campaigns, creating and posting content, tracking results and using data to help inform the system’s overall strategy.  

Additionally, this position will help manage the University President’s social media accounts and monitor the system’s social media accounts for posts that pose harm to the university brand and/or raise issues that should be brought to leadership’s attention. Other duties may include search engine optimization/search engine marketing integration, monitoring and analysis of social media trends and their impact on the university. 

The Social Media Manager/Digital Engagement Strategist reports to the Vice President for Communications and is exempt from the State of Colorado Classified Staff system.

Duties and Responsbilities
Duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: 

  • Develop and execute a broad social media strategy, coordinating with stakeholders across the university system to ensure its effectiveness. 
  • Oversee and manage the system’s presence across all social media properties, building and cultivating a vibrant community while maximizing brand equity, engagement, site traffic, and lead generation.
  • Implement social media campaigns and manage day-to-day activities for the system and the University President. Maintain social media web site including online advocacy, writing editorial, community-outreach efforts, promotions, and similar.
  • Ensure that social media techniques are strategic, inclusive and focused in an effort to expand the university’s brand, increase visibility among existing followers, attract and engage new followers. 
  • Collaborate with a group of strategic social media stakeholders across CU’s four campuses and serve as an advocate for those campuses.
  • Develop measurement plan defining metrics for success.
  • Monitor effective benchmarks for measuring the impact of social media programs, and analyze, review, and report on effectiveness of campaigns in an effort to maximize results.
  • Regularly provide feedback and data-driven insights gained from social media monitoring to evolve communications strategies in a timely fashion. 
  • Monitor trends in social media tools, technologies and applications

Who we are: System Administration, which also houses the Office of the President, is located in the uptown neighborhood of Denver with a few smaller offices located on the campuses.  However, this position is located in Denver and will work a hybrid schedule.  Many of our departments support the educational and research missions of the four University of Colorado campuses, but System Administration is not considered a campus. What we offer:

Salary: The anticipated hiring range has been established at $75,000 - $85,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:

Please ensure your resume includes any and all relevant experience to be accurately assessed against these qualifications.  You must meet all minimum requirements listed at the time of application to be considered for this role.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education, or equivalent professional experience (professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis)
  • Five (5) years’ equivalent experience in social media, public relations, communications, reporting or writing
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Seven (7) years’ equivalent experience in social media, public relations, communications, reporting or writing
  • In-depth knowledge of social media platforms and their respective participants, and how each can be deployed in different scenarios. 
  • Experience with building a large online community on behalf of a brand, growing both the size and level of engagement of its members.
  • Experience with integrating social media programs into overall marketing objectives and activities. 
  • Experience in measuring, reporting, and analyzing program results using such tools as Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, Facebook Insights, Twitter Analytics.
