University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is currently seeking an Accountant I to join the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. This position will have the ability to telework TWO days per week. The selected candidate for this position is eligible for a sign-on bonus totaling of $1,500. Half of the bonus is payable within the first 30 days of hire and the remaining half is payable after successful completion of a probationary period of 6 months. Exemptions for medical or religious reasons will be processed through Human Resources.   PRIMARY DUTIES:
    Performs entry-level professional accounting work under direct supervision such as: submission of journal entries, employee expense reimbursements, travel expense reimbursement; accompanied by full documentation and accurate cost center allocation. Prepares purchase order; drafts cover letter; tracks return of signed agreement; and sends copy of contract to the institution. Re-allocating monthly, pro-card accounts assigned Prepares monthly accounting reports give reports to interested parties under the guidance of the administrator. Ordering research supplies and allocating to assigned accounts in the Accounting System. Equipment Inventory Management with an emphasis on cost basis and depreciation. Other functions as assigned


Qualifications
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with a minimum of nine (9) credits in Accounting.OTHER: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:Working knowledge of and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Ability to apply basic analytical skills; to operate manual and automated office equipment, personal computers and financial software to input data; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to prepare and present working papers and supporting documentation. Based on the duties of this position, selected candidates are eligible to participate in the Bargaining Unit (Union). Salary Range: $45,000 - $50,000 UMB is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
