Housed in the College of Education, the department serves over 1,300 undergraduate students and 100 graduate students. The online MS in Sport Coaching and Leadership was established in 2016 to further the teaching and outreach missions of the department and the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports and was built with a strong curricular grounding in kinesiology and the sport sciences. With the recent addition of a concentration in sport administration, the degree has been re-named the MS in Sport Coaching, Leadership and Administration. It runs on a twice-yearly cohort system and serves a broad range of graduate students with interests in the fields of sport leadership, sport coaching, and sport administration. Although the vast majority of instruction occurs online, the program also features an optional residency portion, where students visit campus for several days to participate in intensive study and engage in networking. More information about this program can be found on the program website (education.msu.edu/kin/scl).

Candidates should have a passion for teaching in the online environment to a broad range of student types. The program brings together a unique combination of current and aspiring coaches, youth sport leaders, and sport administrators who are all in pursuit of graduate-level education. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage with faculty colleagues and graduate students on both scholarship and outreach activities through the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports and the Sport Workforce Development Lab.
