Associate Director, Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program

Position Description:

Rider University invites applications for an Associate Director of the Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program. The Associate Director is responsible for all aspects of the daily operations of the Ronald E. McNair Program, to include the design and delivery of services that ensure student retention and support graduate school readiness and enrollment among first-generation, under-resourced and underrepresented college students. This comprehensive role will include project management and fiduciary oversight; staff supervision; summer program coordination and instructional design; student counseling and graduate school coaching; data collection and records management; cultivating a network of faculty mentors and graduate school representatives. The Associate Director will actively participate in the development of grant proposals (on a 5-year cycle) and in the preparation of annual performance reports for the U.S. Department of Education and Rider University.

Position Requirements:

  • Master’s degree (or higher) in student or academic affairs, higher education administration, teaching, counseling/psychology, social work, or similar field
  • Minimum of five-years’ experience in either higher education administration, teaching or an academic support capacity, to include budget management
  • Demonstrated experience in project/program design, implementation and management; data collection and report writing; evaluation/assessment
  • Thorough understanding of the graduate admission process
  • Exhibited understanding of and commitment to first-generation, under-resourced students and/or historically underrepresented in higher education
  • Experience providing academic programs and support services to include scholarly advisement, engagement, and graduate school/career counseling for the target population
  • Knowledge of TRIO programs or other higher education academic support program progressing students to college completion
  • Demonstrated intentional commitment to diversity and inclusion through the vehicle of educational access, opportunity, and best-practices for targeted population
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with academic, career and personal counseling/coaching plus financial literacy
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff and program partners/allies
  • Capacity to travel (air/land) day, overnight, and/or weekends as required by the program’s function.

Position Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

  • Prior experience with TRIO grant-funded collegiate programs, such as the McNair Scholars Program
  • Experience facilitating graduate school readiness workshops
  • Familiarity with the PhD application and enrollment process, to include graduate essays
  • Experience working with first-generation, under-resourced and/or underrepresented college students
