Brief Position Summary:

Responsible for teaching class(es) in the Intensive ESL, EPGS or Special English programs. This position includes all teaching duties such as assessment, syllabus development, evaluation, and assistance with related program functions. Preference is given for candidates with classroom teaching experience. Candidates must be available to teach all scheduled days of the contracted session.

Teaching Responsibilities: 1. Developing coherent, communicative-based syllabus which stresses both fluency and accuracy

2. Providing regular structured opportunities for meaningful interaction on topics and target language points and skills outlined in the course curriculum

3. Providing instruction that ensures students have opportunities to master the student learning outcomes (SLOs) for a given class4. Assessing students’ academic and other language-related needs.

5. Helping learners to develop awareness of their own learning styles and to increase their use of effective language learning strategies

6. Administering assessment tools regularly and in a timely manner to provide students with feedback on their language learning processes, and to review the effectiveness of instruction

7. Providing model language instruction as a lab school for language teachers in training. This includes receiving observers in the classroom

8. Instructors may be invited to work with practicum or intern teachers, as well, for a modest honorarium. 9. Providing students with an orientation to American culture

10. Providing written and oral feedback to students on their class performance and assignments in a timely manner

Administrative Responsibilities: 1. Attending pre-session meeting and regular staff meetings

2. Participating in session orientation and graduation activities

3. Providing feedback to faculty and support personnel regarding progress and needs of individual students

4. Developing, planning and distributing class syllabi reflecting the goals and format of the specific program, and archiving your materials for use by future administrators and instructors

5. Working cooperatively with other faculty to assure continuity and consistency between elements of the program

6. Coordinating class syllabi so that classes are complementary and mutually reinforcing; coordinating assignments and projects so that students have an even distribution of homework

7. Facilitating ongoing and summary evaluation of each course taught, and of each student’s progress in the course. Assigning final grades and writing final narrative evaluations

8. Establishing and keeping regular office hour(s)

9. Responding to email from colleagues and staff in a timely manner

10. Completing the new teacher development plan during first session of employment, which includes 2 observations, pre and post-observation meetings, and two short self-assessments
