The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology serves as a regional resource for clinical laboratory services required for patient care, research and educational programs in laboratory medicine. Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a Full-Time (100%, 40 hours per week), Days, RESEARCH SCIENTIST 1.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Under general supervision, perform technical procedures in a virology laboratory including but not limited to droplet digital PCR, qPCR, RT-qPCR, next-generation sequencing and tissue, plasma, and FFPE DNA and RNA extractions on biological samples.
  • Perform laboratory established procedures to process and inventory biological samples.
  • Report the results, and organize documents and keep records.
  • The position's major duties and responsibilities include performing sample prep and molecular assays for the viral genomic material detection and gene expression profile outlined above as well as assisting with troubleshooting with existing assays and methodological development of new assays.
  • Handle tissue specimen for cryo-storage and prepare tissue sections for Immunohistochemistry analysis.

    REQUIREMENTS
    Bachelor's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry or related field.
    AND
    One year of experience in a related area.

    An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.

    DESIRED
  • Good laboratory practice (GLP) skills.
  • Experience with Excel and Word for data entry and data analyses.

  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Will be considered essential staff and as such will be required to report to work when scheduled despite inclement weather
  • May work weekends and holidays
  • May be asked to work hours beyond normal open hours of the laboratory depending on staffing needs and current testing requirements.
