Summary

The Associate General Counsel for Intellectual Property, Innovation/Entrepreneurial Activities, and Online Education Initiatives, working in close collaboration with the Office of Technology Transfer and Business Development, the Innovation Institute, and the administration, will be responsible for providing legal advice regarding intellectual property, technology and data use, internet law, copyright and computer privacy issues. This attorney will focus on complex transactional matters arising out of the innovation and entrepreneurship activities and online education initiatives at the university and will be responsible for negotiating, drafting and advising on a variety of licensing agreements, non-disclosure agreements and other commercial agreements with IP provisions. The position requires a collaborative, detail-oriented and deadline driven person with excellent written, analytical and verbal communication skills, as well as relevant and deep legal knowledge and experience. The attorney will proactively identify and mitigate legal risk to protect the organization from undue legal exposure, liability and financial loss, all the while counseling and working to facilitate the achievement of strategic and operational objectives.

Required Qualifications

• J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
• Current license to practice law in Louisiana or eligibility for admission in Louisiana within two years of employment. Licensure as in-house attorney in the State of Louisiana is required during this two year period.
• Licensed in good standing without any instances of suspension, revocation, censure or other adverse events in any jurisdiction.
• Minimum seven (7) years higher education intellectual property law experience
