Job Summary
The Anesthesia Technician’s primary responsibility is to maintain all anesthesia service areas in
readiness and for use by anesthesiologists and Anesthetists. The service areas include all operating
rooms and procedure rooms in the Orthopaedic Institute. Additional service areas include but are not
limited to: Radiology, MRI, all pre-op and PACU facilities. Responsible for anesthesia equipment and
supplies as described in this job description and is accountable to the Patient Care Manager of the
Orthopaedic Institute. The Anesthesia Technician must be able to work independently and be able to
make decisions and set priorities with guidance. The Anesthesia Technician is responsible for knowledge
of a compliance with all applicable infection control, health and safety policies and procedures as
implemented by the department and/or work unit and the Medical Center. Additionally, adherence to
departmental policies and procedures, including telephone and house standards is required. The
Anesthesia Technician is responsible to support TJC Standards, Title 22 and NPSG. The individual is
responsible to achieve efficient turn-over of rooms, maintenance of equipment and exemplary customer
service. Acts as a team player at all times and fosters collegiality across all disciplines.

Required Qualifications
• This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
• Minimum one year relevant work experience
• Knowledge of medical/surgical and anesthetic terminology.
• High school graduate or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Basic mathematical skills to quickly and accurately add, subtract, divide, and multiply whole
numbers and decimals manually or using a calculator.
• Ability to work independently with good organizational skills.
• Good communication skills. Ability to be clearly understood. Ability to be friendly, courteous, and
work in a cooperative manner.
• The ability to see well and read in dim light. Must be able to distinguish colors on the anesthesia
monitors. Must be able to hear and comprehend at normal conversational levels. Must have
manual dexterity to manipulate small equipment including, but not limited to, twisting bulbs,
turning dials, changing batteries, and pushing bottoms.
• Must be able to move in confined spaces.
• Must be able to repetitively lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
• The ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure.
• AHA BLS
 
Preferred Qualifications
• Some college with a background in the life sciences, medicine, a related field or relevant education
