Job Description Summary:
The LaFetra College of Education (LFCE) at the University of La Verne invites applications for a full-time, 12-month administrative position as Associate Dean beginning July 2022. The Associate Dean is a member of the LFCE leadership team and is expected to participate in and contribute to this group's work and support initiatives identified by the Dean. The candidate will work with faculty, staff, other campus leaders, and students to strengthen the goals and mission of the college. The Associate Dean will report to the Dean of LFCE and will assist the Dean in providing overall leadership and management for the college. In addition, the Associate Dean will support and model high standards of performance and ethical behavior; develop and demonstrate a deep knowledge of all LFCE and its academic programs, grant projects, and partnership activities; and remain current concerning future trends and issues in California P-12 education and higher education. The successful candidate will possess exemplary interpersonal skills and a demonstrated commitment to diversity and in initiatives that serve and support underrepresented communities. In addition, the successful candidate should demonstrate strong communication skills. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are essential university and college values and goals. Specific Duties:
The Associate Dean will also work closely with the Dean in undertaking administrative duties such as:
Enrollment:
  • Review course offerings and the schedule of classes to ensure that student needs are met, classes are filled, and budgeting and enrollment are in alignment. Support Program Chairs and Center Directors in managing applications, admissions, and enrollment management in the diverse programs at LFCE.



Curricular and advising:
  • Support curriculum processes in accordance with University and College policies and the priorities of the Dean, with a focus on creating equitable, responsive, and just learning experiences for all learners. Provide leadership in conceptualizing, planning, and implementing academic and student support programs that improve academic performance and/or persistence to degree. In addition, the Associate Dean will support the Dean in identifying innovative new degree programs, course offerings, and modes of delivery.
Operations:
  • Oversee contracts, personnel issues, workload coordination, and budgeting. Assist with developing and establishing college policies, procedures, standards, and processes, developing and executing a strategic plan, and managing human capital processes, including professional learning and the promotion and tenure process.
Student support:
  • Support with course observations, academic appeals, program review, curricular/program inventory, student success metrics, and academic assessments.
Facilities and Space:
  • Coordinate the planning and effective use of instructional, office, and support space and the use of materials, equipment, and technology to meet college and university goals.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Earned Doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in a discipline found within LaFetra College of Education from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills within academics or industry.
  • Demonstrated experience as a collaborator, problem-solver, consensus-builder, communicator, and innovator within a university setting.
  • Dedication to the mission of the University and LaFetra College of Education and to the full range of programs at LFCE.
  • Commitment to diversity and issues of just, equitable, and inclusive education.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with college-level curricular planning processes.
  • An understanding of a variety of effective models for educator preparation programs.
  • Experience supervising, collaborating with, and evaluating direct reports.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty, staff, and/or administrators in other university units.
