The Perinatal Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible and accountable for providing administrative and clinical leadership on the Labor & Delivery unit at Jacobs Medical Center as well as the LDRP unit at Hillcrest Medical Center. This position supports critical functions in the specialty patient populations of obstetrical women and newborns. Units are highly dynamic with fluctuating acuity levels, frequent emergencies, and high-risk patients. Develops standards of care coordination that demonstrates the success in: promoting high quality, cost effective delivery of care, ensuring effective utilization of resources across the continuum; excellent customer service; and compliance with regulatory and internal UCSD requirements. Spearheads innovative projects and approaches involving multidisciplinary factions for systems improvement that affects patient outcomes across the organization. Plans schedules and organizes work for departments and ensuring proper distribution of assignments and efficient utilization of personnel, space and facilities.

Supervises staff, screens candidates, interviews and hires new employees. Ensures staff competence, compliance with staff licensure/certification requirements and maintenance of related documentation. Conducts performance appraisals, counsels staff, and takes disciplinary action as required in consultation with Employee Relations/Labor Relations. Ensures compliance with discipline related action plans. Develops/integrates annual operational, capital and personnel budget for each cost center with the Department of Finance.

  • Bachelors or Master's Degree in Nursing.

  • Registered Nurse (RN) issued by the state of California.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • NRP certification.

  • Three (3+) or more years of recent acute care RN experience in Postpartum and/or Labor & Delivery.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage nursing teams.

  • Knowledge to manage emergent situations, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.

  • MSN.
  • Clinical area certification (i.e. RNC) or Nursing Administration Certification.
  • Two (2+) or more years of nursing leadership or Charge RN experience.
  • This position has both clinical and administrative duties.
  • This is an evening shift position which requires regular evening shift coverage at both JMC L&D and Hillcrest LDRP, and is eligible for shift differentials. May need to attend occasional meetings during the day. Some weekend shifts required.
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
