Description:

The Adult Clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship at University Medical Center (UMC) is offered through the Psychology Division of the Tulane University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The fellow will provide inpatient and outpatient psychological services across two rotations (Psychiatric Inpatient and Outpatient Psychotherapy).

PSYCHIATRIC INPATIENT ROTATION: The fellow will work two days per week on acute psychiatric inpatient units at University Medical Center, an exciting and face-paced setting with a strong emphasis on psychological consultation and teaching. The fellow’s clinical duties on the inpatient rotation will include assessment, intervention (i.e., group therapy, individual therapy, crisis intervention, and behavior plans), and teaching. The fellow will serve as an integral member of the multidisciplinary treatment teams, working closely with psychiatrists, psychiatric residents, medical students, social workers, and nursing staff. The fellow will have the opportunity to work with individuals presenting with a wide range of psychiatric diagnoses, including affective, psychotic, neurocognitive, substance use, trauma-related, and personality disorders. Supervision will be provided for at least one hour per week.

OUTPATIENT PSYCHOTHERAPY ROTATION: The fellow will work two days per week in an outpatient psychiatric and psychological clinic located at University Medical Center’s outpatient behavioral health clinic. The fellow’s responsibilities will be to provide individual psychotherapy to adults, ages 17 and up, who may be referred by psychiatry and/or other hospital departments and clinics, as well as self-referred patients. The fellow will see patients from diverse backgrounds for a range of presenting problems, including affective, psychotic, neurocognitive, trauma-related, and personality disorders. Supervision will be provided for at least one hour per week for this rotation, with additional supervision as needed.


Qualifications:

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1. Completion of PhD or PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology at an APA-accredited program by start of the fellowship.

2. Completion of an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship in Clinical Psychology by start of the fellowship.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES:

1. Psychological assessment (cognitive, personality, socioemotional)

2. Psychological consultation

3. Individual and group therapy (inpatient and outpatient)

4. Experience participating as a member of a multidisciplinary team

6. Experience working with individuals with severe mental illness

7. Experience working in psychiatric inpatient and outpatient settings

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience in milieu treatment and management

2. Experience in supervision and teaching

3. Experience in developing and implementing individual behavior plans

4. Experience in crisis intervention
