Job Duties :

The ECU College of Nursing continuously strives to create a learning environment and workplace culture that provides opportunity, support, and consideration for all students, employees, alumni, and other stakeholders. The ECU College of Nursing is seeking applications for a faculty position that will have a portion of their effort dedicated to serving as the Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the College of Nursing. This position will have responsibility for providing leadership and administrative oversight for researching, developing, implementing, and maintaining a range of successful practices for supporting the College of Nursing’s cultural climate that values and prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusiveness. Planning, teaching, and evaluation of courses in area of expertise is integral to the faculty role. The Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is a member of the Dean’s Executive Committee and has oversight for all diversity, equity and inclusion activities which support students, faculty, and staff. This is a line position accountable to the Dean.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide DEI training and faculty development programs for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Collaborate with faculty and administrators to develop strategies that are designed to embed DEI principles and content in courses and curricula.
  • Lead the development, implementation, oversight, and evaluation of a data-driven DEI operational plan aligned with the College’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Serve as a liaison between university-wide leadership of DEI and the College of Nursing. Address policy, cultural, structural, and climate issues and propose strategies that will help the college advance in DEI.
  • Serve in a consulting role to support the academic and social-emotional well-being of underserved and underrepresented students in the classroom and clinical settings.
  • Support the well-being and sense of belonging of underrepresented faculty and staff.
  • Coordinate student engagement activities to promote inclusivity and sense of belonging and well-being.
  • Collaborate with administrators to develop strategies designed to increase recruitment, retention, and success of underrepresented faculty, staff, and students.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship and faculty to support research focused on health equity and equity in health education.
  • Serve a role in obtaining external funding to support diversity initiatives.
  • Teaches selected courses in area of expertise.
  • Participates in scholarly activities and professional service as required by members of the University faculty community.

Minimum Education/Experience :

Qualifications include:

  • An earned doctorate in nursing or a related field plus a master’s degree in nursing.
  • Distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, and service appropriate for appointment at a senior faculty rank/title of Associate Professor/Professor if eligible for tenure or Clinical Associate/Associate Professor for fixed-term.
  • Demonstrated success with outcomes in developing and leading DEI initiatives.
  • Demonstrated record of providing effective, innovative academic and administrative leadership in baccalaureate and/or higher degree programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills and the ability to build enthusiasm and commitment with faculty, staff, and students across all cultures and demographics.
  • Hold a current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in North Carolina and if employed after July 1, 1992, shall have had a minimum of 2 calendar years prior, full-time employment or the equivalent in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation :

A valid non-restricted North Carolina registered nurse license is required upon employment.
