The University of Washington Office of Admissions has an outstanding opportunity for an Admissions Counselor. The Office of Admissions is a unit within the Division of Enrollment Management.

The Office of Admissions is seeking a talented individual who wishes to join our staff as a counselor, to assist in the coordination of freshman outreach and recruitment for a university that receives more than 52,000 freshman applications annually. This position reports to the assistant director for freshmen recruitment. We are a values driven, ethical and collaborative office built on trust, transparency and mutual respect. The Admissions Counselor must be flexible and have the drive to work in a fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal and writing skills are essential, as are strong public speaking skills and the ability to represent the University in a positive way to diverse audiences. Must be comfortable with technology and have familiarity with Google drive, spreadsheets and database software tools. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. The Admissions Counselor must exhibit an appreciation of, and sensitivity to, a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of many social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial and ethnic backgrounds.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

•Counseling prospective transfer and freshman applicants about the boundless opportunities available at the UW and about the admissions process. Such counseling takes place through in-person and virtual appointments, information sessions, phone calls and emails
•Representing the UW at community colleges, high schools, community events and on-campus information sessions and events
•Managing and traveling to at least one in-state and one out-of-state freshman recruitment territory
•Assisting in outreach and recruitment programs
•Reviewing undergraduate applications through a holistic process
•Other duties as assigned


Requirements include:

•Bachelor’s degree
•At least two years admissions counseling and/or outreach experience or equivalent.
•Must be comfortable with technology and have basic familiarity with Google drive, spreadsheets and database software tools.
•Must be able to demonstrate ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
•Must be flexible and have the drive to work in a fast-paced office.
•Strong interpersonal and writing skills are essential, as are strong public speaking skills and the ability to present the University in a positive way to diverse populations.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Desired:

•Experience in both freshman and transfer admissions recruitment and outreach and an understanding of the distinctive qualities of the UW.
•Experience working with diverse populations as well as an understanding of cultural differences and their effect on college planning.
•Demonstrated enthusiasm for the UW, strong work ethic, exercises sound judgment, professionalism and maturity.
•Former student ambassador, tour guide, on-campus Resident Adviser, Peer Adviser, Orientation Leader or similar student involvement.
•Graduate of the UW or a similar research university.

Working Conditions:

•Office setting on the Seattle campus with occasional telework option. The position requires a significant amount of time at a work station, in addition to presenting and attending college fairs and visiting high schools (up to three hours in some cases).
•This position requires the ability to work evenings and weekends; potential travel throughout WA and the US;
•Load and transport materials, displays, and other equipment (up to 50 lbs).
