Responsibilities

The Director of Auxiliary Services reports to the Vice President and Chief of Staff. The Director of Auxiliary Services will provide leadership and guidance for the Purchasing Department, Motor Pool, Material [Central] Receiving and Delivery, Dining Services, Plant Operations, and Print Shop. Responsible for planning and directing the activities of the University’s Auxiliary Services to support University users. Develops policies and procedures to establish and maintain compliance, long-term plans and direction for the unit, annual unit goals to ensure compatibility between unit and overall university goals and objectives, and monitors progress on the achievement of expected outcomes. The Director will assume responsibility for analysis and implementation of strategies for adequate contract administration and oversight for major independent contract vendors for major services; researching opportunities for improving services, increasing revenues, and staying current with marketplace trends;  taking lead in the planning for long-term capital improvement projects related to auxiliary services; and working closely with project managers on auxiliary services and campus-wide projects. Oversees quality assurance programs and aids in development of additional marketing and customer service initiatives intended to improve services, widen customer base, and/or increase revenues associated with dining services, campus store, vending, and retail operations.

 

The Director of Auxiliary Services will create “Request for Proposals/Bids” when required. Provides research and professional recommendations, works with architects and/or contractors for construction, renovation, or specific projects and/or major capital expenditures for equipment, and performs other assignments as required or solicited.  Provides assistance with, but not limited to, the reviewing of specifications and drawings, presenting of input at meetings for possible changes, and supporting of  projects as needed.  Performs other duties within the scope of this position as assigned by the Vice President and Chief of Staff.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in management/business discipline or related field, or equivalent training or experience.  Extensive experience managing Auxiliary Services or closely equivalent experience. Exposure and/or experience that include responsibilities in auxiliary services, procurement, supply services, or business would be strongly preferred. The successful candidate should have a working knowledge base of project and contract management; applicable agency, state and federal regulations, policies, and procedures; and principles of budgeting and fiscal management. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, develop policies and procedures, plan and direct the activities of staff, establish goals and priorities, and prepare reports required. Must be able to interact positively with faculty, staff, students, architects, contractors, and vendors. Supervisory, problem solving, critical thinking, decision-making, customer service, and effective communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills are required.
