Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Executive Perioperative Director, the Unit Director, Pediatric Operating Rooms at Mission Bay, will be responsible for management, supervision and development of staff in the operative setting (12 ORs). The Unit Director works closely with appropriate departmental chairs, medical directors, and medical staff for the services approved.
The Unit Director, in collaboration with the appropriate faculty, plans, develops, and directs the patient care programs and related capital projects. In addition, the Unit Director ensures the quality of patient care in all operative locations at the UCSF - Benioff Children's Hospital at Mission Bay.
The Unit Director serves as a role model for professional nursing practice with twenty-four hour line management responsibilities for the administration of personnel, fiscal and material resources. The Unit Director supports UCSF Medical Center’s overall mission to provide high quality patient care, teaching, and research.

Department Description
The Pediatric Operating Rooms at Mission Bay consists of 12 surgical suites in which complex surgery is performed. Specialties include but not limited to: General Surgery, Cardiac, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Urology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Hematology, Robotics and Plastics. The Unit Director oversees the managers of the service lines.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
- Three to five years of pediatric OR management experience, with a total of seven years of progressive and in-depth expertise in OR management.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to foster and promote an environment for effective communication and collaborative decision making across multiple units and disciplines.
- Excellent leadership, fiscal and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines.
- Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.
- Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.
- Knowledge of appropriate professional standards for the operating room and a member of AORN.
- Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork and collaboration.
- Ensures Magnet structure and processes are implemented and maintained by promoting evidence-based practices and collaborative governance.
- Registered Nurse in the State of California.
- CNOR or certification in nursing administration
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters Degree in Nursing
- Knowledge of OR management/perioperative services in an academic medical center setting.
License/Certification
