Business Systems Analyst

Basic Function:

                  To work as a member of the Office of Financial Aid team, assisting in the advancement, implementation, and utilization of technology in developing more effective methods of delivering financial aid to all qualified students.

Duties:

●       Evaluate long term and day-to-day office technology needs, including the training of new staff on specific technology tools. 

●       Keep abreast of all federal, state, and University rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines regarding financial aid.

●       Complete internal and external survey requests.

●       Assist in establishing yearly technology and service goals and identifying necessary technology upgrades throughout the year.

●       Manage the upkeep of Banner and other software used by the Office of Financial Aid.

●       Support financial aid communication processes such as letter production, emails, and dynamic messages.

●       Act as the liaison between Biola and our financial aid software vendors.

●       Work with Data Management to correct student ID issues.

●       Assist with and oversee portions of the annual software setup and ongoing adjustments throughout the year for each of our software tools (eg. Banner, EdConnect, Perceptive Content, Blackbaud, DL Tools, Cisco, CampusLogic, Cognos, etc.). 

●       Write and maintain population selections in Banner.

●       Support the Office of Financial Aid in day-to-day software use—including troubleshooting of software and process issues.

●       Serve as the primary office liaison with IT staff in maintaining requests and an open line of communication between both offices on requested jobs and for other “as needed” requests.  In addition, this position is the Asset Manager for IT equipment.

●       Create, maintain, and run necessary Cognos reports.  

●       Proactively work with staff members to identify ways in which we can more fully utilize the software available to the office.

●       Assist the leadership team in analysis of systems and procedures for the purpose of creating new systems to improve accuracy and efficiency.

●       Collaborate closely with IT staff, University Communications, University Marketing, and Admissions marketing staff to manage, maintain and develop financial aid web based forms, applications, web-pages, and other web-based tools necessary in awarding financial aid to students. 

●       Work with Assistant and Associate FA Directors and IT staff to implement financial aid auto and batch processing capabilities using.

●       Assist with maintaining the paperless financial aid award delivery and filing system.

●       Develop written procedures, and maintain a yearly calendar for office functions unique to this position.

●       Assist with other technology needs of the office as needed including basic troubleshooting of hardware issues.

●       Assist in the research of technology related office purchases

●       Create, update, correct, and maintain financial aid letters and forms. 

●       Assist with the training of other staff members.

●       Attend local or national conferences occasionally that may require overnight travel.

●       Some Saturday and evening work may be required during certain times of the year. During peak times, overtime may be mandatory.

●       Assist with a University Commencement day each year which will typically require overtime for that day and may be on a Saturday.

●       Maintain a lifestyle in consonance with sound Christian principles and those promulgated by the institution.

●       Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Supervision:

                Reports to the Senior Director of Financial Aid

Qualifications and Skills:

●       A Bachelor’s degree is required

●       A minimum of two years of experience in financial aid preferred or three years experience in an equivalent technology services position is preferred. 

●       A high level of computer literacy and ability to manage/juggle varying responsibilities simultaneously is required. 

●       An aptitude for system analysis and design along with a drive to improve processes is preferred.

●       Capacity for high volume, high pressure, detail-oriented production required.

●       Effective professional communication and people skills.

●       Experience with SQL
