Title: Chief Information Officer

Description: The Chief Information Officer reports to the Vice President for Finance. This position has responsibility for planning, directing, and managing information technology resources campus-wide. The CIO has overall responsibility for all ITS staff and providers of outside services and consulting expertise. This position provides strategic direction for campus-wide technologies and plans the staff development and/or contracted resources necessary to support teaching, learning, communication, and administration.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the high quality and consistency of the College’s technology systems including servers, data networks, telephone systems
  • Ensure the high quality of the College’s information systems, both campus- and Internet based
  • Assure the security of networks, technology systems, and data
  • Position the College to use data in decision-making by improving data governance and management practices, integrating data sources and increasing overall organizational analytical capabilities.
  • Establish technology policies in coordination with appropriate College committees and administrators
  • Manage IT Division resources, including the administration of personnel and budget to ensure maximum effectiveness and quality of service delivered, as well as cultivating an inclusive culture that emphasizes collaboration, continuous improvement and commitment to excellence
  • Provide executive leadership for the digital transformation of University services considering both process improvement and end-user experiences.
  • Advise in the selection, deployment and use of technology in the curriculum
  • Plan and deploy technologies to support the College’s mission
  • Coordinate with College facilities managers for the maintenance and improvement of technologies infrastructure
  • Establish and oversee contracts with the College’s technology vendors
  • IT assessment planning, implementation, and reporting
  • Create an inclusive organizational culture that is welcoming of equity and diversity, stresses collegiality, and values professional development.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • As a representative of the College, must comport oneself in a professional manner at all times, both on and off campus.
  • Comply with all applicable College, Federal, State, local and associational regulations
  • Participate in significant campus activities including Welcome Weekend, True Blue Weekend, and Commencement Weekend.

Qualifications: Minimum requirements for this position are a Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree preferred. A minimum of 7 years’ experience in Information Technology management, including 3 years in an educational setting and a history of increasing responsibility over the 7 years.

  • An understanding of the leadership structure within an academic environment and the competing interests that drive decision-making.
  • Experience implementing industry best practices in project management, service management, application selection, and development.
  • Leadership role in the implementation of an institution-wide technology solution with significant process improvement and organizational change management components.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience as a change agent; ability to create and manage change effectively
  • Experience in building vendor relationships, negotiating contracts, developing budgets and devising financial strategies.
  • Ability to promote customer-centric technical support and to identify and respond to customer support needs
  • A strong understanding of information security and risk management.
  • Strong financial management skills including the ability to manage complex budgets with multiple fund sources.

The Chief Information Officer is frequently required to stand and walk to other areas on campus, lift computers and peripherals, and carry computers and peripherals within the department and to/from storage areas, as the position involves the use of computer systems the Chief Information Officer is frequently typing and viewing a computer screen or monitor. As an essential role of the Chief Information Officer is to communicate with students, faculty and staff of the College, talking and hearing are frequent activities.

The Chief Information Officer may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; lifting and moving of items of greater weight are typically assessed by a hand truck.
