Job Description:

Basic Function and Responsibility:

Under general supervision, plan and direct the delivery of instructional support services available in the Chemistry science labs.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate lab preps, use and maintenance of supplies, equipment and educational materials.
  • Supervise the chemistry stock area in the evenings when classes are in session.
  • Review chemistry lab procedures, techniques and equipment with instructors as needed.
  • With the assistance from the Science Lab Assistant/Chemistry, prepare lab make-up work and provide instructional materials for use in the learning lab.
  • Supervise the safety and security of the chemistry lab facilities.
  • Clean and store laboratory equipment.
  • Collect, organize and remove chemical wastes from the labs to a designated area. Maintain a list of chemical wastes.
  • Assist instructors in demonstration of lab procedures as required.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • An associate's degree in science with courses and related laboratory experience in chemistry or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable skills and abilities can be obtained is required.
  • Two years of related chemistry lab experience is desired.
  • Must be able to exchange information on factual matters and understand and transmit instruction.
  • Requires the ability to mentally and visually concentrate on a significant amount of detail work.
  • General chemistry laboratory environment. May have exposure to chemical solutions, vapors and smells.

Additional Information:

Supervision Received:

Administrative supervision is received from the Division Dean, Program Chair or designated faculty member. Functional supervision is received from the Science Laboratory Assistant/Chemistry.

Supervision Exercised:

Functional supervision may be exercised over 1 to 2 student employees.

HOURS: Monday - Thursday 4:15 pm - 10:30 pm

SALARY: $20.95 Salary may change due to the completion of staff negotiations
