Job Description:

The Fullerton College Department of Theatre Arts is actively seeking applications for part-time Lecturers of Musical Theatre with the department of Theatre Arts beginning Fall 2022. The Musical Theatre program at Fullerton College offers a rapidly growing 2-year accredited conservatory-style certificate program within the Theatre Arts department.

Successful candidates will work in close cooperation with the Musical Theatre Program Coordinator and report to the Department coordinator of the Theatre Arts Department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to teaching courses in Musical Theatre Performance Techniques, Auditioning for Musical Theatre and directing musical productions.

Special Requirements:

The award of all degrees must be verifiable on a legible transcript. If degree award date is not posted on transcript your application will be deemed incomplete and removed from consideration.

Grade cards will not be accepted in lieu of transcripts.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s or Master of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/ performance

OR

Bachelor’s or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance

AND

Master’s in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, literature or humanities

OR

Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area

OR

The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

Commitment to diversity. All applicants must have demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff. The applicant must be able to demonstrate how these factors relate to the need for equity minded practices within the classroom.

Desirable Qualifications:

Extensive knowledge of musical theatre repertoire, strong professional development as a director within the industry.

Knowledge of current trends in the professional industry, and the skills required to work within those trends.
Teaching experience in one or more of the instructional areas mentioned in the job description.
Ability to collaborate as a member of an artistic team.
Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.

Expertise in culturally responsive teaching in theater arts, particularly as it relates to the relevance of theater arts to student’s lives, interest, and communities; demonstrated ability to address equity gaps of racially minoritized groups within theater arts.
