Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Associate Director for Off Campus Student Life and Community Engagement, the Off Campus Student Life Coordinator provides education, outreach and support to students during the transition to, and while living off campus, focusing on their successful experiences as tenants and students in the local community area. Coordinates day-to-day operation of community-based interventions, such as the Walk This Way program to mitigate noise in residential neighborhoods, and implements educational programs to promote positive community relations between students and neighbors. Collaborates with town and University police, inspection services, and Dean of Students Office around off campus issues related to student rentals, alcohol/drug related behavior, and nuisance house issues.

Essential Functions
  • Coordinate the implementation of educational programs, materials and outreach for off campus students to increase individual agency, civic mindedness and responsibility while living in the community. Manage Walk This Way and Team Positive Presence peer education programs addressing student behavior and decision-making off campus.
  • Alongside campus partners, assist with implementing University efforts and programs to foster positive interactions between students and community residents
  • Assist students with housing searches, housing relocation/emergencies, landlord/tenant relationships and referrals to campus and community resources
  • Assist with the design of educational communications, programs, presentations and videos for students regarding their rights and responsibilities as community members (Good Neighbor, Living Off Campus Certification, Party Smart Registration)
  • Assist with recommendations for program and outreach improvement based on relevant trends and assessment data. Prepare reports for internal and external purposes.
  • Assist with creating, implementing and distributing community messaging around programs and resources for Off Campus Student Life, coordinating the social media accounts and website updates for the department
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise up to 30 undergraduate student staff and one graduate assistant.
  • Provide professional level support to the Associate Director and Associate Dean.

  • Performs related duties as assigned or required to meet Department, Executive Area/Division, and University goals and objectives.
  • Understands responsibilities with respect to Title IX, Clery and other compliance requirements.

  • Works collaboratively with other campus stakeholders to fulfill the mission of Student Affairs and Campus Life.

  • Uses access to sensitive and/or not yet public university related information only in the performance of the responsibilities of position and exercises care to prevent unnecessary disclosure to others.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
  • Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years’ post bachelor’s work experience in program planning and delivery that specifically relates to community building, risk reduction, and conflict resolution, including supervisory experience in a related work setting; OR Master’s Degree in Education, Student Development, Higher Education Administration, Public Policy, Public Health, Communications or a related field with 1 year related work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse and non-traditional populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage youth-led programs including supervising student staff.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with internal and external constituencies.
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency (word processing, spreadsheet, database systems, social media and video applications).
  • Applies and conforms with internal financial policies to ensure transactions are processed properly.
  • Excellent judgment and ability to deal with sensitive/difficult situations.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
  • Event/security risk management, basic understanding of landlord tenant law, state and town bylaws related to off campus student issues
  • Experience advising college aged students.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate well with students, administrators, local officials, and neighbors.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions
  • Typical office environment activity.
  • Able to lift, hold and deliver objects 30-60 pounds.
  • Valid Driver’s License, and access to a vehicle; able to travel locally to meet with community members, town leaders and students off campus.

Work Schedule
  • 37.5 hour per week position; Required to work some nights, typically Friday and Saturday until 1:30 am, as schedule dictates.
  • Required to work some weekends.
