Position Information: DescriptionThe College of Education & Human Development at the University of North Dakota invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position focused on Rural Education and Workforce Development with a start date between June 1 and July 1, 2022.  This is a 1-year position with an additional 1-year option for renewal. Since 2017, the College of Education and Human Development’s (CEHD) faculty generated approximately $9 million dollars in extramural research grants from funding organizations including the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the National Science Foundation. CEHD has prioritized research in the area of Rural Education and Workforce Development through the creation of the Initiative for Rural Education, Equity, and Economic Development (I-REEED). I-REEED stems from the principle that public education is an essential social good that is inseparable from the mental and physical health of communities, economic development, and social justice. The primary goal of I-REEED is to produce rigorous, solution-oriented research that is collaboratively derived and both relevant and responsive to our local partners. The I-REEED mission is rooted in service and a conviction in the practical power of rigorous research. Rounding out this commitment to service through research, the CEHD Bureau of Evaluation and Research Services (BEARS) provides state-of-the-art and affordable research and evaluation services to organizations in education, health, human development, and related fields to assist leaders in making evidence-based decisions.

Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe successful applicant will help advance UND’s capacity to conduct research in the area of rural education and workforce development with a focus on the pursuit of external funding. While receiving formal mentorship from CEHD faculty associated with I-REEED and BEARS, the postdoctoral researcher will be engaged in the following three interrelated tasks:

    Develop and submit collaborative external grant proposals focused on rural education and workforce development. Contribute to ongoing I-REEED and BEARS projects, as well as develop ideas for new collaborations and research initiatives with community partners in the areas of rural education and workforce development.Collect and analyze data related to rural education and workforce development, leading to publications and presentations with I-REEED and BEARS affiliated faculty members and doctoral students.
Required Competencies
    Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with strong interpersonal skillsStrong oral and written communication skills
    Minimum Requirements
    • A Ph.D. conferred by time of appointment in education or related field with an emphasis in research, rural education, education policy, or related topics.

    • Experience developing grant funding proposals.Quantitative and/or qualitative research and evaluation skills/experience. Evidence of research and scholarship potential (publications, professional conference participation).Successful completion of criminal history records check

    Preferred Qualifications
      Experience developing K-16 and community partnerships in the area of rural education and/or workforce development.
    Minimum Hiring Salary

    $45,000-$50,000

    Work Schedule/Start Date

    40 hours per week, Projected start date is between June 1 and July 1, 2022
