Job Summary The overall purpose and goal of the Research Manager position is to assist and provide technical and complex research to benefit the NCORP grant and the Georgia Cancer Center Clinical Trials Unit at Augusta University (AU). This position will help with various research projects and protocols. The position will also provide laboratory based work for a range of diagnoses and treatments. This will entail processing specimens and other laboratory procedures that are needed for projects.

Responsibilities The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Study Management: Manage NCI COG trials including, but not limited to:
  • Review of study protocols, primary disease category, and investigational drug information
  • Be familiar with the protocol requirements including inclusion/exclusion criteria, study visit requirements
  • Screen potential participants
  • Communicate and coordinate with all areas involved in the research here at AU (Clinical Research Pharmacy, Radiology, Laboratory Services, Pathology, Patient Scheduling, etc)
  • Conduct protocol-specified visits according to the study protocol
  • Collect, process, and ship required specimens per protocol
  • Enter visit data into the appropriate data management system within a timely manner
  • Conduct required follow-up visits with participants
  • Review CTSU for protocol amendments, be familiar with protocol changes and what those changes mean for study participants
  • Submit adverse events and serious adverse events to the cooperative group and regulatory board (IRB)
Regulatory:
  • Complete regulatory submissions for all COG NCORP trials (including IRB submissions, informed consent document preparation, ONCORE submissions, IBC submissions)
  • Complete amendment updates for all ongoing COG NCORP trials (submissions and dissemination to COG staff)
  • Provide regulatory back-up, as needed, to both the NCORP Administrator and Data Coordinator 2
  • Provide assistance with boilerplate language changes, when required
  • Complete annual continuing reviews for all COG NCORP studies including reviews for PRMC, IRB, and ONCORE
Other Duties:
  • Performs all other related duties/tasks as assigned.
  • Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against, and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.
Required Qualifications Ph.D. from an accredited college or university with a minimum of one year directly applicable experience and previous supervisory experience
OR
Master's degree from an accredited college or university with five years' progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experience; or major coursework completed on a Ph.D. in a related scientific field with two years of progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experience
OR
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of eight years' progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experienceKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases
  • Ability to communicate well with and be sensitive to individuals from a variety of ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds
  • The position requires responsible decision making regarding laboratory procedures and providing research. Important decisions are made in consultation with the PLS.
  • Prioritizing tasks to meet sponsor and IRB submission deadlines per protocol and institutional guidelines. If deadlines are not met, study enrollment can be haulted and eligible patients will have to wait which could impact accrual to GA CaRes M/U NCORP Grant
  • All interactions with subjects and team members require clear communication that is culturally appropriate and understandable. Lack of skills in these areas could result in errors and affect the number of subjects willing to participate in the programs which could have a negative impact on the overall project.
Shift/Salary/Benefits *This position is supported by grant funds
Shift: Days/M-F (8:00 am - 5:00 pm) (Work outside of normal business hours may be required.) Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
