Job Id: 790 # of Openings: 1 Accountant III - EndowmentJob OverviewThis position is responsible for the accounting and net asset classification of both the College’s endowment and planned giving including but not limited to annuities and split interest trusts. The Accountant III - Endowment will ensure accurate endowment and investment balances and activities, deliver accurate and timely financial information, and perform appropriate reconciliation and control procedures to safeguard the College’s endowment and investments. This position reports to the Assistant Controller. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintains records of funds' participation in the endowment investment pool.
  • Maintains unit balances by fund, reconciles unit activity, processes spending distributions to individual sources, and calculates the unit value of the endowment investment pool.
  • Reconciles subsidiary ledger with Banner General Ledger on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Researches and resolves financial reporting issues affecting the College’s endowment, and collaborates with the Assistant Controller in implementing new accounting guidance.
  • Serves as a resource for other budget managers and financial staff throughout the College who may request assistance with endowment issues and their financial reporting impact.
  • Reviews externally managed investment reports to generate journal entries in the endowment and accounting systems on a monthly basis.
  • Updates monthly and annual lead schedules for endowment and investment activities used for the annual audits including endowment undistributed earnings, endowment market value and investment consolidation reports.
  • Works collaboratively with the Advancement Office to accurately record gifts to the College based on donor designations and in accordance with GAAP regulations. This includes processing Donor Transmittal by following College’s procedures and internal controls.
  • Works collaboratively with the Investment Department to record Matured Trust distributions.
  • Coordinates and prepares annual reports for multiple agencies and audit deliverables.
This job description is intended to represent key areas of responsibilities; specific assignments may vary from time to time depending on the operational needs of the department. Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or similar degree required.
  • 3-5 years of endowment experience preferred in a Higher Education environment or non-profit institutional Accounting and/or Investment Accounting.
  • Knowledge of planned giving vehicles, charitable giving, etc., preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Oracle or similar ERP system preferred.
Physical Requirements The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motions, handle or feel, and to stand, walk reach, bend, or lift up to 10 pounds.
