The UMKC School of Pharmacy at the University of Missouri-Columbia

Job Description Serves as the administrative officer for the UMKC School of Pharmacy at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and the vice chair of the Division of Pharmacy Practice and Administration. The associate dean for the UMKC SOP at MU supports the planning, development, oversight and administration of the school’s MU site and is a member of the school’s Executive Committee. Contributes to developing a sense of community across campus sites, collaborates with school, MU and university leadership, coordinates and supports diversity initiatives of the school, MU and university. As associate dean, this position reports to the dean of the UMKC School of Pharmacy. With regard to vice chair duties, responsibilities are delegated by the chair of the Division of Pharmacy Practice and Administration.

Primary associate dean duties:

1. Provide oversight for curricular offerings on the MU site, including MU-originated courses, UMKC and MU transmitted courses, in conjunction with the associate dean for academic affairs.

2. Provide oversight of experiential activities at the MU site in conjunction with the assistant director of experiential education and the Office of Experiential Learning.

3. Provide oversight of interprofessional education efforts at the MU site in collaboration with the IPE lead.

4. Support student recruitment efforts at the MU site in conjunction with the associate dean for student affairs and the Columbia based recruiting staff.

5. Supervise professional and clerical staff at the MU site.

6. Assist with the coordination of student organization and alumni activities related to the MU site.

7. Oversee resolution of instructional delivery problems or difficulties that affect the MU site, or that originate from the MU site and affect faculty and students at other program sites.

8. Manage matters related to student success, professionalism, and academic performance at the MU site in conjunction with either the associate dean of student affairs, associate dean of academic affairs, or both.

9. Maintain relationships and serve as a liaison between the UMKC School of Pharmacy and MU administration, leadership, and the leadership within the MU School of Health Professions.

10. Maintain relationships and serve as a liaison between the UMKC School of Pharmacy, the leadership of the MU Colleges of Medicine and Nursing, and the NextGen Precision Health Institute.

11. Provide oversight of maintenance of the MU site memorandum of understanding (MOU) for information technology services.

12. Approve expenditures of school resources utilized to support the MU site in conjunction with the dean and the business manager.

13. Represent the dean of the school on a regional, state, national or international level as needed.

14. Other responsibilities as assigned by the dean.

Primary vice chair duties:

1. Collaborate with the division chair and associate dean for academic affairs in providing faculty development for UMKC SOP at MU faculty.

2. Collaborate with the division chair in the assignment and evaluation of teaching, practice, scholarship and service for the UMKC SOP at MU faculty.

3. Approve expenditures of divisional resources utilized in support of the distance site.

4. Collaborate with the division chair and the assistant director of experiential education and the Office of Experiential Learning in the development of new clinical pharmacy services sites for student placements in the region.

5. Establish and maintain relationships with clinical pharmacy practice locations where primary faculty members have established practices.

6. Maintain a level of scholarship, service, and pharmacy practice consistent with divisional expectations and administrative duties.

7. Provide teaching in personal area of expertise and/or in identified areas of need and as requested by the division chair.

8. Provide leadership for recruitment, mentoring, and retention of faculty and staff at the MU site.

9. Other responsibilities as assigned by the chair.

Minimum Qualifications 1. Pharm.D. or pharmacy-related Ph.D. degree

2. Record of accomplishment in teaching, scholarship and service eligible for academic appointment at the rank of associate or full professor in an ACPE accredited pharmacy program

3. Excellent oral and written communication skills

4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with faculty, administrators and external constituents

5. Ability to handle multiple priorities with excellent organizational skills

6. Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member

Full Time/Part Time Full-time, benefit-eligible, ranked non-tenure track academic position at the rank of Associate Clinical Professor or Clinical Professor or tenure-eligible Associate Professor or Professor, 12-month faculty appointment. Opportunity for rank promotion provided.

Salary and rank commensurate with education and experience.
