The Executive Director of Equity and Inclusive Diversity provides leadership and strategic direction in creating and nurturing a college climate that is welcoming, inclusive, respectful and free from discrimination, intolerance and harassment. The Executive Director is responsible for developing and delivering activities that promote an inclusive environment for all students, staff, and faculty. This includes building collaborative partnerships across campus with members of the President’s Cabinet, administrators, faculty, staff and students to assist them in creating and promoting a welcoming, supportive and inclusive climate within the college during a time of growth and change. The Executive Director of Equity and Inclusive Diversity provides visionary leadership and consultation to all levels of employees on diversity, equity and inclusion issues which are integral to fulfilling the college’s commitment to build and maintain a diverse student body and workforce.

This includes building collaborative partnerships across campus with members of the Presidents Cabinet, administrators, faculty, staff, and students to assist them in creating and promoting a welcoming, supportive and inclusive climate within the college during a time of growth and change. The Executive Director of Equity and Inclusive Diversity provides visionary leadership and consultation to all levels of employees on diversity, equity, and inclusion issues which are integral to fulfilling the college’s commitment to build and maintain a diverse student body and workforce.
The Executive Director of Equity and Inclusive Diversity works to promote cultural competence in all segments of the college community. The Executive Director of Equity and Inclusive Diversity may also provide outreach to private corporations, non-profit organizations, civic groups and members of the K-12 educational system to foster collaboration on a variety of initiatives focused on promoting diversity and inclusion and cultural competency.
  • Plans, directs, implements, evaluates, and updates college diversity and inclusion activities that create and nurture a diverse and inclusive college climate
  • Engages the Southern Maryland community in forums surrounding the college’s equity initiatives
  • Provides strategic vision of programs and events hosted on all of CSM’s campuses that promote cultural understanding and educate the college and local community on diversity issues
  • Leads and facilitates completion of diversity initiatives consistent with strategic and diversity plan goals
  • Serves as the college’s representative in appropriate organizations
  • Collaborates with Human Resources and other departments to develop, deliver and coordinate a robust professional development program to address equity, inclusion, and cultural competency among employees
  • Supports Human Resources in recruiting and hiring practices that advance diversity, equal employment and affirmative action
  • Assists the Provost and Vice President for Learning and the Vice President of Student Equity and Success in planning, assessing, and evaluating effectiveness of curricular and co-curricular efforts related to diversity and cultural competency
  • Collaborates with the Distinguished Professor for Equity on programming for faculty, as well as the larger community
  • Supports Human Resources and the Title IX and ADA Coordinators in providing collegewide education and training on a regular basis for faculty, staff, and students on issues of discrimination, harassment, diversity, and equity and inclusion policy and practices
  • Works collaboratively with faculty and staff to expand cultural competencies and promote a greater understanding and valuing of differences in people across the Southern Maryland community
  • Provides outreach to private corporations, non-profit organizations, civic groups, and members of the K-12 educational system to foster collaboration on a variety of shared training and program initiatives focused on diversity, inclusion, cultural awareness, civility and related topics.
  • Coordinates the development, implementation and regular revision of a cultural assessment of the college climate, analyze results and compare over time to measure progress
  • Leads college-wide efforts, such as climate surveys, trainings, initiatives, to manage change and ensure consistent standards. Serves as a change agent in the areas of climate/culture
  • Serves on appropriate college-wide committees
  • Prepares reports and updates of the Key Performance Indicators assigned to the Diversity Office. Uses KPIs, PACE, SACE and other measurement tools, to identify and recommend opportunities and strategies for improvement related to diversity and equal opportunity
  • Complete required annual reports on diversity outcomes, as well as required federal, state and local reports such as MHEC diversity report and VETS-100.
  • Assists in the analysis and dissemination of relevant data to effectively monitor, analyze and benchmark institutional progress related to equity and diversity
  • Provide regular reports to the President and has a standing agenda item for the President’s Cabinet regarding progress of diversity, inclusion programs, initiatives and activities
Supervision: List all position titles reporting directly to this position, full-time or part-time. Include student assistants, temporary, permanent and part-time faculty supervised in a typical semester or year.
Provides coordination, oversight, supervision and evaluation of the following positions:

Additional Duties:
Performs other related work as required. Minimum Education and Training• Master’s degree
• Significant and professional work experience in diversity, equal opportunity or related
administrative
area; preferably in academia, government or nonprofit sector
• Demonstrated current knowledge of discrimination laws, and current knowledge of trends,
developments and best practices in affirmative action, equal opportunity and diversity
• Experience managing equity and inclusion programs, preferably in higher education, along
with managing cultural competency initiatives and organizational development and change
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity in employment and academia
• Intercultural communication knowledge and skills
• Excellent oral, active listening, written, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
• Excellent ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse
community
• Highest ethics, integrity and confidentiality consistent with the position • Excellent
presentation skills • Effective supervisory and management experience • Proficient computer
skills, including current operating systems, web browsers, and Word • Good driving record Minimum Qualifications and Standards RequiredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Internal & External Contacts: Identify contacts required within and outside the college, and purpose of contacts. (Example: Contacts vendors for supplies and materials; or meets with tri-county public and private employers to determine training needs)
  1. Board of Trustees & President’s Council –Advises regarding the status of, and strategies for success of, the Affirmative Action Plan for employee minority hiring and retention and the Minority Student Achievement Action Plan for minority student enrollment. Department chairs, directors, and other internal staff – Effectively coordinates and implements the strategies in the Diverse Student Program Model Action Plan and the Minority Student Achievement Action Plan.
  2. Academic deans and faculty – Assists the development of curriculum and promotion of special sessions for prospective minority students.
  • Hiring supervisors and search committees – Assists the recruiting process through education and training consistent with the college’s Affirmative Action Plan and hiring policies.
  • Current and prospective students – Obtains and discusses information related to achieving minority enrollment, retention and achievement goals.
  • Employees and students – Aids in investigation of allegations of discrimination and, where appropriate, provide recommendations for resolutions.
  • State and local government, schools, civic, religious and professional organizations – Markets the college as an employer and educator committed to diversity and equal opportunity; strengthens student recruitment efforts.
  • Local vendors, exhibitors and event organizers – Establishes partnerships with the college in sponsoring community outreach programs; assists in development and staffing of exhibits.
  • Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-Serving Institutions and other colleges and universities – Develops strategies and programs for improving the rate of transfer of minority students.
Physical Requirements:
The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally,
and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
