The Department of Medical Imaging at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto is currently recruiting a full-time, fellowship-trained, academic Emergency, Trauma & Acute Care (ETAC) radiologist eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto. This is a “partnership-track” position. We are a collegial, welcoming and supportive group that seeks clinically excellent radiologists to support our mission of caring for urgently presenting, critically ill and high-level trauma patients. The successful candidate will be committed to outstanding quality in clinical operations, teaching and research and will hold certification in Diagnostic Radiology with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or international equivalent. They will be a self-starter and team player, and must have a strong commitment to excellent patient care, continuous quality improvement, research and teaching. Start date is anticipated to be on or before July 1, 2022.

The successful applicant will provide diagnostic interpretations of plain-film, ultrasound, CT, and MR imaging examinations in support of Emergency, Inpatient and Trauma Services. Clinical services are performed primarily in a teaching setting with clinical fellow, resident and medical student participation. Teaching and research (including AI) opportunities are available to interested applicants. Academic rank at the University of Toronto (Canada’s top-ranked medical school) will be commensurate with applicant’s experience.

We aspire to be Canada’s premier trauma center. Operating out of our cutting-edge emergency and trauma facility, with an “ETAC Pod” with dedicated state-of-the-art imaging equipment slated for construction, the ETAC Division is equipped to provide the highest standards of clinical care to our patients and collaborative support for the clinicians we serve.

St. Michael’s Hospital is the academic hospital site of the Unity Health Toronto network and is a busy 500-bed tertiary care and a level 1 trauma centre located in the heart of Toronto’s Downtown and is affectionately referred to as the “Urban Angel”. We are one of four principal teaching hospitals within the Department of Medical Imaging, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. The hospital has a long history of recognized excellence in post-graduate, graduate and undergraduate Medical Imaging education. There are 9 ultrasound units, 3 multi-detector CT scanners, and 4 MRI scanners (two are 3.0 T, one of which is a designated research MRI). PET-CT for both cardiac and oncologic applications has been purchased and is anticipated to be operational in the department in 2022.

There are over 50 radiology residents from the Department of Medical Imaging, University of Toronto who also rotate through the department. In addition to our dedicated MRI Research Centre, significant new resources have been added in support of the Department’s internationally recognized research work in Medical Imaging artificial intelligence through a recently funded Research Chair in Medical Imaging Artificial Intelligence. The hospital houses the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute and the Keenan Research Centre that provide world-class research support and afford many opportunities for radiologists to engage in collaborative translational research in Medical Imaging.
