Job Description:

The Complex Adaptive Systems and Computational Intelligence (CASCI) lab at the Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science, Binghamton University (State University of New York) is accepting applications for a full-time non-tenure track postdoctoral fellow to conduct interdisciplinary research in Complex Networks and Systems applied to various social, ecological, biological, medicine and health problems.

Recent projects at the lab, funded by NIH, NSF, and FCT, Include:

• Studying control, robustness and evolvability of network dynamics (10.1073/pnas.2022598118, 10.1038/srep24456), by understanding and using redundancy in complex networks and systems, including brain, biochemical, social and technological networks (10.1098/rsif.2021.0659, 0.1093/comnet/cnab021, 10.1371/journal.pone.0128193).
• Mining social media data, literature, and biomedical databases for pharmacological events, disease signals, and health-related behavior (10.1146/annurev-biodatasci-030320-040844, arXiv:2201.07552, 10.1038/s41598-017, 10.1002/cpt.1745, /10.1371/journal.pone.0122199) including gender and age biases (10.1038/s41746-019-0141-x).

The appointment is full-time for 12 months, with potential to be extended an additional year subject to funding and satisfactory performance. We offer a competitive salary with generous benefits.

The postdoc will be supervised by Prof. Luis M Rocha (rocha@binghamton.edu) and join a dynamic and interdisciplinary team that includes systems scientists, biologists, computer scientists, and social scientists. Please contact him for further information.

Requirements:

Basic Qualifications: A PhD is required in Complex Systems, Network Science, Computer or Computational Science, Computational Biology, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence or related field; a strong background in analysis and modeling of complex systems and networks; and solid programming skills necessary to handle big data and develop large scale simulations. ABD (all but dissertation) candidates may apply but will need the Ph.D. prior to start.
