Asst. Professor/ Program Coord of Biotechnology Description/Job Summary

BCCC is searching for an Assistant Professor/Program Coordinator in Biotechnology. This position requires expertise in the field of biotechnology and an understanding of related industries. The position is responsible for the delivery of biotechnology course instruction, facilitation of student learning and success, the on-going development of curriculum and learning strategies which meet the needs of student and employers. The selected candidate will teach 15 credit hours per semester in biotechnology. Responsibilities will include maintaining scheduled office hours; developing and revising curriculum; training faculty in new curriculum as needed; developing and implementing course and program assessment of student learning outcomes; developing and maintaining relationships with industry and academic partners; participating in college, division, and department meetings; serving on committees; and other duties as assigned. Teaching assignments could be any combination of face to face (day or evening), hybrid or online, and are subject to change as needed. The candidate will coordinate student field experiences off campus and develop research experiences.

Responsibilities/Duties

Overview of position: Summary of position’s responsibilities:

Faculty Service:

• Develop and/or deliver lecture content in the field of Biotechnology
• Update curricula to reflect current expectations for course transfer
• Participate in required faculty and department meetings, and serve on college committees
• Perform other additional duties as agreed by the Associate Dean
• Develop and Build the Biotechnology Program by:

Developing relationships with Biotech companies and developing MOU’s for internships

Coordinating with the Associate Dean and Dean in preparing course schedules for fall, spring, and summer sessions and teaching assignments for full-time and adjunct faculty for the discipline

Assist the Associate Dean and Dean with the recruitment, hiring, training, and mentoring of faculty within the discipline

Develop and maintain a working knowledge of student learning outcomes assessment and program review

Compile the SLOAs (Learning Outcomes) for courses in the Biotechnology program

Perform graduation audits and tracking student progress

Assist with program marketing and recruitment, retention

Promote and coordinate activities of the Biotechnology Student Club.

Teaching and Scholarly Engagement:

• Develop and design engaging course content, leveraging digital and other multi-media resources in the classroom
• Collect, grade, and report assignments and homework
• Assess and monitor student progress and understanding throughout the course
• Use the LMS to communicate the course materials, grades and other student support resources
• Maintain and update the syllabus and course materials
• Provide and mentor undergraduate student research projects
• Exhibit a spirit of inquiry about teaching and learning, student development, and evaluation methods
• Use evidence-based resources to improve and support teaching
• Share teaching expertise with colleagues and others
• Provide required office hours
• Effectively communicate with students via e-mail, phone or online discussion boards
• Provide academic advice and guidance to students.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Biotechnology or related field
• Three years’ experience of teaching in a college setting
• Experience working in the biotechnology field
• Experience teaching face-to-face, online, hybrid, and/or blended learning
• Familiarity with Canvas or any learning management system (LMS)

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD Degree in Biotechnology or related field
• Three years of teaching in a college setting
• Community College teaching experience
• Experience with teaching dual enrollment
