The Center for Applied Isotope Studies is the largest Isotope Geochemistry Laboratory / Radiocarbon AMS Dating Facility in the United States that is accredited under ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Our commitment to experiential STEM education, research excellence, and superior service sets us apart from other laboratories. As an interdisciplinary research center, our scientists are experts in physical chemistry, geology, marine science, physics, archaeology, ecology and biology. This means that CAIS researchers are able to effectively collaborate in research programs and participate in method development for myriad of industrial and academic applications.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Position Summary:

This position will include various types of sample preparation techniques for both stable isotope analysis and water chemistry. Additional responsibilities will include helping manage the laboratory’s sample inventory and queue.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

A degree in a science related discipline (eg. Chemistry, Ecology or Biology) and direct laboratory experience is preferred. The candidate should have a strong knowledge and understanding of benchtop chemistry skills including but not limited to pipetting, dilutions, solution preparation and titrations. Experience with Excel spreadsheets is preferred.

Physical Demands:

Some of the physical demands of the job will include lifting and organizing boxes of sample material that might weight over 30lbs. Sit for long periods of time either at a microbalance weighing station or at a laboratory benchtop.
