Organizational Unit Overview:It is the mission of the Department of Pediatrics, East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine, to provide exemplary medical education/training of physicians in pediatric medicine at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, it is the mission of the department to provide model comprehensive primary and consultative subspecialty care to children of eastern North Carolina, to advance scientific knowledge through basic and clinical research, and to provide continuing medical education opportunities for physicians in the region.
Job Duties :As an integral member of the research team, the Research Assistant will perform a variety of duties in support of clinical research studies in the department of pediatrics including recruiting study participants, assisting with informed consent, and managing sample collection as well as documenting and managing data
Collect all data and samples related to the study and work with the Clinical Trials Manager, Principal Investigator, and Lead Research Coordinator to ensure all activities are completed
Maintain electronic and paper project files, enters data into sponsor portals, and tracks other study information; this includes the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and other computer applications
Process and manage specimens collected for the study
Work collaboratively with other members of the study team to identify creative solutions to address challenges in the conduct of the study
Utilize a variety of strategies to maintain and identify participant contact information (e.g. medical record requests, contacting alternative contact individuals provided by research participants, utilizing electronic tools for contact information look up, etc.)
May perform other duties incidental to research activities as assigned
Outside of visits, this position will help with general administrative tasks (like filing, data entry, and routing documents for signature)
The position will work across multiple studies and with the entire team
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation:None
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:Experience working with children is preferred.
Experience working on research projects is preferred.
Familiarity with medical terminology and research best practices would be helpful.
Human subjects research training, such as CITI training, is preferred.
Phlebotomy certification preferred; CNA license also an advantage.
