Assistant Chancellor of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

UW-Stout is seeking applications for their inaugural Assistant Chancellor of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. This student centered and innovative leader will oversee the newly formed equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) unit within the Chancellor’s Division. This is a Cabinet-level leadership position that reports directly to the Chancellor. The Assistant Chancellor of EDI will lead the centering of equity and intersectional inclusivity as they support university stakeholders in the assessment and development of policies and procedures. The Assistant Chancellor of EDI will work with the university, UW System, and university and community partners to help ensure that UW-Stout invests in and provides access to equitable, diverse and inclusive living, learning, and work environments.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum/Required

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college/university
  • Five years of proven effectiveness leading and/or strongly cultivating EDI work across organizations
  • Two years of experience supervising and evaluating staff
  • Experience working collaboratively within and across diverse communities
  • Experience advocating for individuals and/or groups
  • Proven success building and sustaining internal and external relationships
  • Exceptional written and interpersonal skills, including group presentation/facilitation skills
  • Evidence of successful problem solving and conflict resolution skills

Highly Desired

  • Experience developing and successfully implementing EDI based training and professional development
  • Broad knowledge of regulatory and statutory compliance regulations related to EDI (such as: freedom of expression, Title IX, affirmative action, American Disabilities Act, etc.)
  • Experience in the development and/or assessment of EDI plans
  • Experience in higher education
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective change agent
  • Demonstrated experience establishing a work environment that is highly collaborative and embraces equity, diversity, and inclusion

RESPONSIBILITIES

Cultivate Inclusive Excellence:

  • Set strategic direction for EDI efforts at the university
  • Assist the university in developing and implementing policies and procedures that center historically excluded populations and foster the growth and development of the entire university community
  • Build relationships with faculty and staff and collaboratively develop structures and resources that align with our FOCUS 2030 Strategic Plan
  • Provide guidance and coaching opportunities for senior leadership, supervisors, and staff in support of their EDI efforts

Foster Community Engagement:

  • Build relationships with students and student groups to promote equity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Work to ensure collaboration and open communication with shared governance. This includes serving as Chair of the EDI Team. The EDI Team includes the chair of the EDI committee/council for each of the four governance groups along with the Executive Director of EDI
  • Partner with internal and external constituents to inform structural and cultural change within the university and in the greater Menomonie/Dunn County community

Enhance Communication and Partnerships:

  • Work with Academic Affairs to embed social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion into curriculum, pedagogy, and program design
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and university stakeholders to further the hiring, retention, and development of diverse faculty and staff
  • Collaborate with Enrollment Management and Strategic Initiatives and university partners to contribute to the recruitment, retention, and development of diverse students
  • Collaborate with the Director of the Nakatani Teaching and Learning Center and university partners in the continuation and development of training and professional development surrounding EDI
  • Work with the University Foundation and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to seek and maintain funding and grant opportunities to advance EDI initiatives and support for students, faculty and staff
  • Represent UW-Stout at UW System as UW-Stout’s Senior Diversity Officer in matters related to equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Supervise the Executive Director of EDI and the EDI fellows (faculty, staff and student)
  • Additional Duties as Assigned
  • Manage EDI office budget
  • Some night and weekend work, as well as travel expected

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Unit was established on August 1, 2021. This unit was developed to prioritize UW-Stout’s commitment to EDI across the campus and university community. The focus of this unit is to improve campus climate for faculty, staff and students; to work to break down barriers for individuals from our most historically excluded populations; and to build bridges for faculty, staff, and students to feel as if they can thrive in the UW-Stout community.

The 2021-2022 academic year is the pilot year for the EDI unit. The unit includes the following departments: the EDI office, Multicultural Student Services, TRiO Student Support Services – Regular and – Disability, Fostering Success, TRiO McNair Scholars Program, and LGBTQIA+ resources (the Qube).
