Departmental Overview

University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) strengthens Berkeley's excellence through engagement with alumni, parents, undergraduate and graduate students, and friends of the University, raising public awareness about Berkeley and increasing private philanthropy. UDAR provides overall direction for the campus philanthropic advancement strategies and works to strengthen unit development in partnership with campus fundraisers. The Division handles a range of central activities and services encompassing communications, stewardship, prospect development, data management, gift services, fund management, reporting and analytics, and donor recognition, as well as talent management and workforce planning.

External Relations and Marketing Communications (ERMC) is a full-service professional team, delivering donor-centered and integrated editorial, design, digital, event, and logistical solutions to inspire philanthropy and engage UC Berkeley donors, alumni, parents, and students. The Marketing Communications team supports key fundraising and public outreach objectives through editorial, design, web, e-communications, social media, promotional, and donor relations services.

Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Web Program Manager Lead, in the Marketing Communications organization within UDAR, the position will administrate the campus wide email marketing and online giving applications, working closely with campus partners to guide them in the appropriate use of the applications. The email marketing application - SalesForce Marketing Cloud - is a sophisticated enterprise-class, web based communication platform used across campus by schools and colleges to send solicitation emails to our constituents and donors.

The online giving application - Give.berkeley.edu - is the university's premier online giving solution. It is utilized by all schools, colleges, departments, and research organizations for fundraising purposes to promote the University's advancement goals.

This position supports the Campaign and advances the university's development goals by providing centralized, secure, and reliable online tools and resources for interfacing with our alumni, parents, friends, donors, and students.

Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership on reporting of constituent engagement with electronic communications, including creating reports.
  • Manages electronic communications projects electronic communications tool for the campus, including consulting services, end-user workshops, cross-campus community collaboration and best practices, problem solving, and training opportunities.
  • Responsible for testing email communications and giving applications to ensure technical accuracy.
  • Maintains currency with emerging communications and other web-related platforms, gathering requirements and developments (for example, accessibility issues) and recommends and as directed, takes action to ensure compliance.

Required Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of email marketing systems and/or relevant online giving web applications used for communications and fundraising.
  • Demonstrable experience engaging large community of technical applications in best practices, providing learning opportunities, solutions strategies, and self-help guidelines.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication and a proven record of teamwork and collaboration in a diverse environment.
  • Experience working with a CRM application or data warehouse; updating records, generating reports, etc.
  • Strong technical skills in enterprise applications for email and web production, asset management, layout and publishing communications
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and balance varying volumes of work assignments and adapt to changing needs
  • Thorough skills to develop and implement original ideas and correctly identify and effectively solve problems
  • Good organizational, analytical, problem solving, and time management skills, as well as a strong attention to detail
  • Thorough skills to create clear, intuitive, accurate, well-designed, and functional email templates and web pages that provide content consistent with the campus message and in keeping with management directives and client objectives.
  • Thorough understanding of institutional processes, procedures, and applicable rules and regulations for web communications.

Education/Training:
  • Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
