Job Summary

The student laboratory assistant will help prepare water samples for analyses and maintain a clean and orderly workspace for ecology research studying the water quality effects of beavers in urban streams in Atlanta. The position will begin in Summer 2021 and could extend through Summer 2023.

Responsibilities
  • Follow the proper procedures to clean glassware and other equipment.
  • Prepare samples for analysis.
  • Keep the lab space clean and orderly.
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings to coordinate necessary tasks.
  • Assist with other lab and field research tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours or more at Georgia Gwinnett College.
  • Successful completion of at least one biology, chemistry, or environmental science laboratory course at GGC.
  • Must be in good academic standing and maintain good academic standing for the duration of employment.
  • Must be good conduct standing with the Office of Student Integrity and maintain good conduct for the duration of employment.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, responsible, and able to work independently.
  • Must be comfortable working in a laboratory setting and following lab safety guidelines.
  • Schedule flexibility must allow time each weekday to complete necessary ongoing daily tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Biology, Chemistry, or Environmental Science major interested in learning more about ecology research.
  • Recommendation from a biology, chemistry, or environmental science laboratory course instructor at GGC.
