Job Description:

The Senior Director of Administration, MFOS and Student Life will enhance institution-wide student success outcomes for first generation, low income students including retention and graduation rates, working from the student affairs divisional perspective. The incumbent is crucial in supporting the fundraising efforts with UF Advancement working with stewardship, communications, and cultivation of MFOS and Student Life donors, including front-line fundraising initiatives.

Advancement Initiatives

  • Assist UF Advancement with developing strategy, creating initiatives, connecting MFOS alumni, meeting with potential donors and foundations, all with a goal of endowing the Machen Florida Opportunity Scholarship.
  • Assist University of Florida Advancement with stewardship of MFOS donors, call on prospective donors, annual giving, and work with the Advancement communications team on story telling about the impact of the MFOS program.
  • Work with MFOS Director to identify scholarship recipients for speaking engagements, share stories about the return on investment, and attend scholarship fundraising events when needed.
  • Coordinate with MFOS Director to assist with data, framing the message, and publications.
  • Plan and implement all aspects of events for constituents with an interest in supporting Student Affairs initiatives. Require ability to work collaboratively with the University Initiatives and Vice President & Campaign Events teams.
  • Provide support to the 15-person MFOS Leadership Council along with Student Affairs.
  • Lead Student Life and MFOS Fundraising Initiatives

  • Lead fundraising oversight on Giving Day and First Gen Alumni Challenge projects.
  • Supervise Association Director of Development Student Life fundraising position.
  • Thought-leader for future enrollment management fundraising strategies, including planning for next campaign.
  • Educate faculty and deans as well as other campus units about the strengths and needs of MFOS and other first-generation students.
  • Portfolio Management

  • Responsible for identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift prospects.
  • Focus on individual prospects and work with leadership, corporate and foundation prospects where gift is assessed at $100,000 and above.
  • Build a portfolio of fundraising prospects and strategically manage relationships utilizing a strategic moves management approach to yield maximum philanthropic support in a timely manner.
  • In coordination with the Executive Director of Advancement of University Initiatives, attend Student Affairs and UF Advancement functions to identify new individuals and move prospects through the donor continuum.
  • Properly handle leadership, annual gifts and pledges made to the University.
  • Create a structured process for the identification, recruitment, evaluation, recognition, and replacement of volunteers to strengthen fundraising effectiveness.
  • Communications

  • Assist in developing and implementing a comprehensive communications plan to inform constituents and identified markets about the mission, vision, and values of the units, their funding priorities, and gift opportunities.
  • Serve as a storyteller, responsible for crafting inspiring, compelling stories, recognizing school support for first-generation and low-income students and the impact on their lives.
  • Assist with writing the content for proposals, development brochures, case statements, alumni magazine articles and other development materials as needed.
  • Develop and present major gift proposals, and acknowledge and recognize gifts in ways that are meaningful to donors and appropriate to the mission, vision and values of the units, and UF Advancement.
  • Create a structured process for the identification, recruitment, evaluation, recognition, and replacement of volunteers to strengthen fundraising effectiveness.
  • Supervision and oversight of Associate Director of Development.

    Expected Salary:

    Salary commensurate with education and experience.

    Minimum Requirements:

    Master’s degree in appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience or a bachelor’s degree in appropriate areas of specialization and eight years of experience. Three years of supervisory experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    The ideal candidate will possess:
    • Master’s degree in a related field or related field with 4-6 years of programming and student development experience.
    • Three to five years of major gift fundraising experience with documented success in cultivating and soliciting major gifts of $100,000 and above from individual and corporate prospects with campaign experience.
    • Prior experience in a college or university setting, enthusiasm for fundraising in a comprehensive research university, and the desire to work collegially within a goal-oriented fundraising organization.
    • Knowledge of higher education, support services, student development, financial aid, diversity and inclusion.
    • Knowledge of fundraising principles, methods, and standards.
    • Expertise in developing solicitation strategies.
    • The ability to work strategically, develop and implement constituency programs and activities, along with a talent for motivating volunteers.
    • Ability to work collaboratively and a team player.
    • Competency in problem solving.
    • Experience working with diverse populations of students.
    • Evidence of effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and external constituents.
    • Experience working with first-generation, low-income students, academic advising and transition programs.
    • Prefer experience working with first-generation students and/or students with strong financial need.
    • Experience advising, mentoring, research/assessment, and fundraising preferred.
    • Must be an outstanding communicator and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; interpersonal skills; and the ability to work collegially and interact effectively with a diverse constituency.
    • An appreciation for and support of diversity in the workplace in all its forms; proven success working with stakeholders; project management skills; experience in a data-driven environment; organizational skills; and the ability to lead, influence and motivate others are required.
    • Working knowledge in these areas: Windows, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, internet browsers, preferably Internet Explorer, E-mail. Working knowledge of a donor database, contact management and tracking system.
    • The ability and willingness to travel. A valid driver license and good driving record are essential. *
