The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE) embodies excellence in research, teaching, and extension in the economics of agriculture and the economics of natural resources and the environment. Dedicated, student-focused faculty teach diverse courses and nurture industry connections to help students pursue rewarding careers. Researchers engage students in relevant, applied research. Extension specialists conduct research-based activities that benefit local and global communities.
ARE offers undergraduate major and minor programs in agricultural business management and a concentration in biological sciences business management within the agricultural business management program. At the graduate level, the department offers a Master of Science degree and a Masters of Economics degree, and a Ph.D. degree in economics. These instructional programs are enriched by faculty members with extension and research activities, which contribute to the relevance and thoroughness of the teaching program.
ARE is part of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, which conducts outstanding research, teaching, and extension programs and plays a vital role in North Carolina agriculture, food and fiber systems, environmental quality enhancement, and economic development. ARE is housed in Nelson Hall along with The Poole College of Management (PCOM) and coordinates closely with entrepreneurship programs in PCOM and across NC State University via the NCSU Entrepreneurship Alliance.

The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE) at North Carolina State University is seeking a dedicated educator for a full-time 100% teaching position at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor, starting Fall Semester 2022. This nine-month, non-tenure-track position is a recurring fixed-term position with benefits, with an expectation of contract renewal conditional on demonstrated effectiveness in primary responsibilities. The position carries a teaching load of three courses each semester (six courses in an academic year) in the four- and two-year undergraduate Agribusiness Management programs.

This position is an academic year position (9-month term with benefits, teaching Fall Semester 2022 and Spring Semester 2023 initially). The successful candidate will actively engage students in learning, teaching primarily agribusiness marketing and related topics. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to undergraduate student advising, serve as a coach/adviser of student competition teams and organizations (e.g., in NAMA, AAEA, SAEA competitions, Agribusiness Club), and to serve as a liaison between these groups and relevant professional associations. The person filling this position will have the opportunity to work closely with other faculty in related and complementary teaching, extension, and applied research programs. Opportunities for summer employment (distance-education teaching as an example) and grant collaborations are possible. The position is initially a one-year contract with an expectation of renewal to a multi-year contract.

The position for a Teaching Assistant Professor is accorded professional professorial rank, meaning there is opportunity for promotion to a higher rank (Teaching Associate Professor, Teaching Professor) with demonstrated success in teaching, research and service. Research in this realm includes publishing in the Agribusiness area, and can include research complementary with teaching responsibilities and improving teaching by incorporating new ideas in the classroom.

• PhD in agricultural economics, economics, business, finance, or marketing.

• Demonstrated ability to teach, either in the classroom or a professional setting.
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing, and the skill to be an effective teacher in the classroom or other public forums in order to convey understanding.

• Previous employment in marketing, and familiarity with the agricultural sector.
