Sr. Research Program Coordinator
The Department of Emergency Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital is seeking a Senior Research Program Coordinator who will work under direct supervision of a Research Program Manager. This role will primarily oversee the day-to-day logistics and operations for large-scale respiratory virus clinical research studies in. Study topics include influenza, COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.

The Sr. Research Program Coordinator will interact with the investigators, collaborators, and patients in a clinical research environment, and will assist with staffing and trainings for the study. This person will coordinate all study activities for one or more of our ongoing research endeavors to assure validity of findings and maintain regulatory compliance. The Sr. Research Program Coordinator will also assist in starting up new studies as they arise. This individual will carry out research in accordance with good clinical practices in such activities including obtaining informed consent, data and specimen collection, and patient follow-up over time.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of all assigned study protocols and reporting requirements.
  • Adhere to all protocol requirements to ensure validity of clinical research data.
  • Develop standard operating procedures for studies, considering protocol requirements.
  • Interact with clinicians and other gatekeepers to access the patient population.
  • Collaborate with sponsors to ensure adequate study progress.
  • Recruit and enroll eligible research participants.
  • Collect patient specimens (e.g., blood, urine, or saliva) and other patient data from a variety of sources.
  • Maintain regulatory documents and other investigator site files.
  • Setup and monitor data in tracking logs and do basic statistical analyses.
  • Organize and maintain research group meetings.
  • Prepare mandatory reports and documents/protocols.
  • Prepare for and participate in audits and monitoring of studies.
  • Develop and maintain documents for IRB protocols.
  • Meet regularly with manager and/or team leader to review data accuracy, shift reports, and overall study progress.

This description is a general statement of required duties and responsibilities performed on a regular and continuous basis; the Sr. Research Program Coordinator will perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Three years of related experience is required.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula*.

* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

** Applicants who do not meet the posted requirements but are completing their final academic semester/quarter will be considered eligible for employment and may be asked to provide additional information confirming their academic completion date.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong data management skills.
  • Experience in clinical trials/human subjects research.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Must be comfortable collecting saliva, urine, or blood samples from patients.
  • Ability to independently navigate complex and busy environments.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and data entry, including software applications, databases, mathematical and statistical tools, spreadsheets, and word processing.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Significant attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong, positive interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across disciplines and within a variety of cultures.

Work Schedule/Hours:
  • This person will be working 37.5 hours a week.
  • Must be available to work 7.5 hour shifts at a time, between the hours of 8:00 am and midnight, seven (7) days of the week.
  • Must be flexible and available to work some evenings and weekends.

Starting Salary Range: $39,310 - $54,060 annually (commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
