Position Description:
Under the general direction of the Director of Graduate Programs and Initiatives, serve as Graduate Student Affairs Officer in the Graduate Student Affairs Office of the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry currently has a graduate census of 360 students, and admits approximately 80 new students in 2 programs and eight separate specializations.

The Graduate Student Affairs Officer advises graduate students, faculty, and staff on policies and procedures relating to student funding, financial aid, budget management, academic, and programmatic needs. Other responsibilities include:

Training other staff and student workers to carry out the responsibilities of the office.

Serving as liaison between the Graduate Office, Personnel Office, Business Office, Graduate Division, and other University Offices.

Implementing policies and procedures for efficient operations relating to student funding, academic services, teaching assistant allocations, reimbursements, financial aid, budget management, and programmatic needs.

Participating in the assignment of TAs as part of their financial packages.

As part of a team, ensuring that the department is in compliance with Graduate Division policies.

Planning and supporting activities and events for recruitment, outreach, career, orientation and graduate commencement etc.

Participating in the graduate student recruitment and admissions process.

Prioritizing and completing ongoing tasks following established guidelines and Departmental and University policies.

Exercising judgment and creativity to identify issues, recommend and implement improvements, and meet operational goals of the unit. (Goals and objectives related to the graduate programs are established and achieved through meetings and consultations with the faculty and senior staff.)
