The Maintenance Technician - Operations Specialist is a hybrid position where you will:
Gain real hands-on experience in your trade as a maintenance technician, building and repairing things with your hands, developing your skill, accuracy, precision and ingenuity in solving problems in maintaining our campus facilities.
While performing your tasks, you will observe, evaluate and analyze business operations. You will formulate, develop and implement projects, making significant changes to improve the business, such as: increase efficiency, streamline processes, improve customer service, reduce costs, improve employee turnover, increase morale, etc.
Primary Responsibilities
Maintenance Technicians are in charge of maintaining the equipment and building infrastructure at a facility. While prior skills and experience will give you an advantage it is not required, as all skills can be learned on the job. This entry level position will introduce you to the basics of maintenance repair and a holistic knowledge of the various maintenance needs in a building. Basic skills include carpentry, plumbing and painting.
Must have excellent problem-solving skills when diagnosing a problem, checking multiple resources to correctly identify the cause of failure and perform needed corrective actions.
Provide excellent customer service showing confidence during crises and tact when dealing with customers in completing tasks and resolving concerns.
Must be flexible and versatile, adapting quickly, being willing to change and having a diverse skill set to accomplish a wide variety of tasks.
Apply business concepts learned in the classroom to improve operations.
Develop interpersonal and relationship skills in strengthening and improving team culture and productivity.

Work Experience
3 Months General Work Experience. Prior experience in this field is preferred but not required as on-the-job training will be provided.
Physical Demands
Maintenance workers generally need to be physically fit to perform their job well. As a maintenance worker, your responsibilities can include getting into tight spaces, walking on elevated platforms, lifting heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment
The majority of your time will be spent in the shops and at various buildings around campus. You will also spend a specifically allotted amount of time collaborating with others at the Facilities Management Office developing plans and strategies on how to improve your operations.
