Position Summary:

The Benefits and Compensation Administrator is a member of the Total Rewards team providing outstanding customer support and partnership to the Butler community. This role will assist with strategy development and transformation while providing administration of benefits and compensation programs. In collaboration with other members of the Total Rewards team, this role will focus on the development of a comprehensive total rewards strategy. This will involve listening to and working with employees, leaders, vendors and consultants to transform the way that benefits and compensation are utilized and viewed by Butler employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for day-to-day administration for all benefits programs (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, spending accounts, wellness, tuition remission and 403(b) retirement).
  • Serve as the primary person responsible for the administration of the 403(b) retirement plan. This includes answering employee questions, processing of all contributions to the plan, reconciling and submitting files and funding and preparing data for annual audit processes.
  • Administer all leaves in according with federal, state and University regulations and policies (FMLA, ADA, Sabbatical, Leave of Absence).
  • Research best practices relating to whole person wellbeing programs (physical, mental, financial, spiritual and emotional).
  • Collaborate on ways to define and develop equitable, competitive and consistent compensation policies that align with Butler’s strategies and objectives.
  • Review, analyze and evaluate job descriptions and provide salary recommendations consistent with internal and external market factors.
  • Act as the subject matter expert providing expertise and interpretation for total rewards programs and policies. This includes applying analytical thinking and research to solve complex problems and issues.
  • Develop robust relationships with vendors and consultants to explore emerging trends and best practices for total rewards offerings and identify program and process enhancements.
  • Interpret and apply federal and state laws consistent with University policies and procedures (COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, ACA, FLSA, etc.).
  • Create and deliver effective and timely employee total rewards communications to faculty and staff. This involves creating, editing and updating total rewards information in a straightforward, easily understandable manner and format.
  • Serve as the lead on annual processes (Open Enrollment, salary increases, etc.) including planning, scheduling, preparing and implementing the entire process.
  • Assist with new hire orientation, qualifying events and benefits terminations.
  • Recommend improvements to all processes, practices and procedures to ensure a first-class experience for all employees.
  • Develop and conduct surveys for the purpose of determining employee satisfaction with benefits and compensation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of Total Rewards experience in a business or higher education setting with an emphasis on either benefits or compensation.
  • BA/BS degree required.
  • SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, PHR/SPHR, CCP and/or CEBS preferred.
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines including benefits, compensation, leaves, policy development, wellbeing programs, diversity, and federal and state laws.
  • Must be able to research information, analyze data and communicate or recommend resolutions.
  • Proven track record of providing outstanding customer service to a diverse group of constituents.
  • Proven ability to develop strong trusting relationships to successfully participate in a true team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully managing multiple tasks, priorities and complex projects.
  • Ability to work independently and use strong emotional intelligence, discretion and confidentiality in all interactions with the campus community.
  • Desire to be flexible and roll up your sleeves to assist in accomplishing the priorities of the Total Rewards team.
  • Advanced knowledge of multiple HRIS software applications, Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Expertise in understanding complex federal and state regulations.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is critical.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
