Job Summary:

Eastern Washington University and the College of Health Science and Public Health at Eastern Washington University invite applications to fill one tenure track position in the Department of Public Health and Health Administration to begin September 2022. Appointment rank will be either as tenure track Associate Professor or tenure track Assistant Professor, depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. An additional initial appointment to develop courses prior to the September 2022 start date may be negotiated at time of hire. The additional appointment, if any, will be at a rank of quarterly (adjunct) faculty and will not be counted toward the timeline for tenure and promotion. Eastern is a regional, comprehensive university where all faculty are expected to demonstrate teaching excellence, professional growth, and service to the university, profession, and the community. The primary teaching area for this position will be public health in the undergraduate programs. An ongoing research program and service to the university, college, and department are also required for tenure track appointments. Responsibilities in this position include teaching and supervising student internships in community-based organizations.
Additionally, all faculty are expected to actively participate in assessment of student learning and to engage in effective teaching.

Information about the Department
The Department of Public Health and Health Administration has programs that are housed in Eastern’s residential campus in Cheney, WA and in the Catalyst Building located in the University District in downtown Spokane, WA. The department offers three fully online accelerated format graduate degrees, a Master of Public Health, a Graduate Certificate in Public Health, and a Graduate Certificate in Health Services Administration. The department also offers hybrid undergraduate programs that include: Bachelor of Science in Public Health, Bachelor of Arts in Health Services Administration, a Bachelor of Arts in Health Services Administration- Long-term Care option, a Bachelor of Arts in Health Informatics, and a minor in Health Services Management.

This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.

All new employees must comply with EWU immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR and proof they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.

While we anticipate being open for in-person instruction for academic year 2022-23, should Washington State or university pandemic restrictions disallow for in-person instruction, then courses will be taught via online platforms, including Zoom and other technologies. Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree:
    • Doctoral degree in public health, or
    • Master degree in public health and doctoral degree in closely related field
  • Professional experience:
    • Six (6) or more years of successful professional experience is required for Associate Professor rank
    • Assistant Professor rank requires a minimum of two years’ experience in management, administration, or leadership within the last five years
  • Demonstrated history of community engagement.
  • Knowledge of the CEPH accreditation process.
  • At least 5 years of experience in online teaching and learning.
  • Experience with use of technology and learning management systems (LMS).
  • History of scholarly work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Outlook Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Experience in course design and curriculum development.
  • Excellent communication and networking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who offer one or more of the following:

  • Experience in academic administration for examples program director or chair.
  • Knowledge of Canvas LMS and eportfolio software.
  • Experience in CEPH accreditation process.
  • Experience in public health profession.

Responsibility / Duty:

A Faculty Activity Plan will be developed by the end of the first quarter of the selected candidate’s appointment, and will consist of a combination of teaching, research, service and/or release time to perform administrative duties, as negotiated and as needed to meet the business needs of the department. Teaching: typical workload for this position will involve 36 credits per academic year (80% of the workload), subject to department needs. This position will teach undergraduate courses in Public Health, as well as and/or other courses that fulfill the need of the Department and Program. Teaching includes the following additional responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA:

  • Meet all scheduled classes
  • Plan, organize and inform students of course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance expectations and methods of evaluation including grading scales
  • Schedule and attend office hours
  • Turn in grades according to established deadlines
