Job Summary:

  • Eastern Washington University is currently seeking a Recreation Athletics Specialist 2 – Float Schedule.
  • The Recreational Athletics Specialist 2 is responsible for assisting the Facility Director with various phases of facility management and operation of the Sports & Recreation Center (SRC). Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting in the operation of the SRC equipment room and involvement in special programs and event support. This position will represent the SRC as the supervisor of the entire complex during evening hours and assigned weekend events. For a more detailed job description please see below under Job Duties.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree involving major study in either (a) recreation or therapeutic recreation, (b) music, drama, or physical education or © psychology, sociology, or education with a minor in recreation, physical education, music or drama and one year of paid, professional recreation experience. OR One year of experience as a Recreation & Athletics Specialist 1. OR Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all desirable qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

  • Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with lay out and painting of athletic fields for high level competition and practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Higher Education Experience
  • Experience with Intramural Sports Programs or High School Athletic Programs above the player level.

Responsibility / Duty:

  • 20% Responsible for working with the SRC equipment room staff and event staff in the operation for the Sports and Recreation Center complex. Work will occasionally involve weekends to support Athletic contests and Special events. Responsible for assisting the Facility Director in daily operation duties for the purpose of providing support to various university and non-university programs and events.
  • 20% Responsible for specific set-up of equipment in support of academic classes, athletic activities, intramural/club sports and special events. This includes a measure of technical knowledge of public address, game clock and music operation
  • 20% Act as lead painter for all grass fields as pertains to athletic, intramural, club, and specials events fields. Including but not limited to practice and game soccer fields, logos, intramural football fields, summer camp fields and more.
  • 10% When acting as events supervisor, arrive at a predetermined time in advance of the event and complete pre-event tasks. Including but not limited to opening/closing gates, turning on lights, bleacher set up and positioning necessary equipment such as tables, chairs, and goals.
  • 5% Distributes recreation material and equipment for part of recreation programs. Accountable for aspects of inventory, maintenance/repair and issuance of equipment.
  • 5% Assists in the selection and training of the SRC student staff. This position leads and trains employees in this unit of the department with the help of the Operations Manager and Assistant Manager of Daytime Operations.
  • 5% Responsible for the safety and liability concerns for the complex and its patrons and will ensure compliance with policies and procedures related to the area of authority.
  • 5% Recommends and initiates programs or changes to existing programs.
  • 5% Perform related duties as required
  • 5% During competition, act as Liaison for visiting team and officials. Work with event staff to monitor crowd behavior, handle sideline issues and PA/score table issues.
