The Center for Applied Isotope Studies is the largest Isotope Geochemistry Laboratory / Radiocarbon AMS Dating Facility in the United States that is accredited under ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Our commitment to experiential STEM education, research excellence, and superior service sets us apart from other laboratories. As an interdisciplinary research center, our scientists are experts in physical chemistry, geology, marine science, physics, archaeology, ecology and biology. This means that CAIS researchers are able to effectively collaborate in research programs and participate in method development for myriad of industrial and academic applications.

Position Summary:

The University of Georgia’s (UGA) Center for Applied Isotope Studies (CAIS) seeks to hire at the rank of Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Radiocarbon Dating group with experience in chemistry/geochemistry. This is a renewable 12-month term position. The Radiocarbon Dating group conducts radiocarbon AMS and stable isotope ratio analyses for archaeologists around the world. The laboratory serves to promote the CAIS missions of enhancing the global reputation of UGA as a research institution, providing quality analytical services to researchers, and preparing Georgia students for STEM careers. The lab is a fee-for-service analytical testing facility serving the UGA research community and external clientele including, but not limited to, academic institutions, government agencies, and private companies worldwide. The successful candidate will be involved in sample preparation, method development, client communication, data analysis, and report preparation. The incumbent will work closely with clients and collaborators to develop tailored methods and novel approaches in the areas of stable isotope geochemistry, paleodietary studies, radiocarbon dating, and other analytical methods. The appointee is also expected to establish independence in research design and execution and publish in peer-reviewed literature. The initial appointment will be for 1 year and the position is eligible for renewal.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:

The preferred qualifications are a PhD (or ABD) in chemistry, geochemistry, archaeology or related field plus 1 year of experience in geochemistry laboratory operation. 1 year experience in preparing and analyzing samples for radiocarbon dating preferred.
