Organizational Unit Overview:

Facilities Services is a unit in the Campus Operations Division, which is a part of a broad, diverse division of Administration and Finance that includes all aspects of facilities management at East Carolina University. East Carolina University is the third largest university in the University of North Carolina system with approximately 28,000 full-time students and a staff of approximately 6,000. The university is comprised of 6.2 million square feet of facilities located on 1319 acres with $1.49 billion in physical assets.* This includes the Main, Health Sciences, West Research Campuses, and satellite locations associated with university programs. Facilities Services has an annual budget in excess of $30 million and employs over 400 full-time employees. Major functions include facilities maintenance and housekeeping services. (* Source is the UNC General Administration HEFC Report-Fall 2011.)Facilities Services primary purpose is to plan and perform corrective and preventive maintenance functions on all building structures and equipment and utility infrastructure. Corrective maintenance returns equipment to optimal design performance after failure or upon degradation from age, adverse operation conditions, etc. Preventive maintenance minimizes equipment failures and reduces corrective maintenance.

Job Duties :

An experienced construction professional is needed to provide leadership and expertise in the execution of multiple construction/renovation projects on campus. Responsibilities of this position include expertise in construction estimating, project planning and scheduling, origination and management of contracts and purchases, and identifying construction issues and providing effective solutions.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Associate’s degree in the assigned discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require certification. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

License or Certification required by statute or regulation:

None

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

A two-year college degree with a major in Architecture, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering and three years of progressive experience in the construction or renovation of buildings and building systems, including two years in the direction or planning of building construction or renovation projects OR a four-year college degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering or related field with four years of related experience, as well as experience in the monitoring of budgets, project scheduling and development, and control of work program.

Experience with AutoCAD and design projects is a plus.

An enthusiastic self-starter.

License or Certification required by the Department:
