Organizational Unit Overview:

Information Technology and Computing Services (ITCS) is the central agency that supports enterprise-wide computing at East Carolina University. ITCS, through innovative information technology initiatives and service, provides opportunities for the ECU community to excel in teaching, research, and service using state-of-the-market technology and collaborative environments. ITCS is first and foremost committed to providing excellent information technology support for faculty, staff, and students. ITCS partners with campus departments, other universities, and industry to make strategic investments in information technology infrastructure that will help maintain a competitive advantage in administrative applications, faculty research, and outreach to the state and nation. We will achieve this through increasing the core functions and deploying appropriate technology throughout the university.

The Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) team is a major division of ITCS that develops, acquires, enhances, and supports administrative computer applications for the university. EIS works closely with central offices across campus, including numerous steering committees, to ensure administrative systems meet the needs of the university, and is responsible for the design, development, implementation, operation and enhancement of administrative computer applications for over 29,000 students and over 7,000 employees. Programming specialists, analysts, and technicians are assigned to sub teams on the New Technology Development Group team, Document Imaging team, and the Administrative Systems Development and Support team. These teams support the university’s needs for document imaging, the university web portal, and the ERP needs of administrative offices in the finance, human resource and payroll, student, and university advancement areas.

Job Duties :

This position is a support position on the Xtender team within Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) in ITCS. Primary responsibilities include providing security account management as the Banner Security Administrator and supporting AppWorx/Automic (job scheduling program) for IT staff by running, modifying, and scheduling jobs. Secondary responsibilities include providing backup support for Kronos and Xtender security, documentation, help desk ticket support, and some programming.

The Banner Security Administrator receives requests approved through the Banner Security Application and processes the requests within Ellucian Banner. The Banner Security Administrator also processes terminations and changes in account access. This position also provides support for twice monthly Banner Change Management meetings which are held virtually. Lastly, this role will support users remotely (Teams, WebEx) that submit help desk tickets for service because of issues accessing Banner.

In a backup role, this position supports the primary Kronos security administrator. This involves modifying security roles in Kronos for employees and supervisors. In addition, this position will also provide backup support for the primary Xtender security administrator. This involves processing Banner Security Requests, creating accounts, security groups, and assigning access.

This support position will also create documentation and support the EIS Xtender team. The Technician will work to ensure documentation exists and is up to date for all tickets processed. The technician position will also be involved in programming work for non-critical requests in order to build up a skillset in development.

Employees are required to adjust their standard work schedule to meet the requirements of their position, which includes and not limited to evening and weekend hours to perform scheduled and unscheduled workload requirements to maintain University operations. This position may be eligible for Flexible Work Arrangements (FWA) under the ECU FWA Policy.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Associate’s Degree in Computer Programming, or Bachelor’s degree with some computer related coursework from an appropriately accredited university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Journey level requires an additional six months experience. Advanced level requires an additional one year of experience.

License or Certification required by statute or regulation:

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

• Associate degree in computer programming or related study or bachelor’s degree with some programming coursework, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
• Experience supporting enterprise applications
• Familiarity with security account management, preferably in an Ellucian Banner environment
• Basic knowledge of database design and familiarity with a relational database platform (Oracle, SQL Server, or MySQL)
• Exceptional problem-solving skills
• Ability to think clearly and accurately to resolve issues under pressure
• Attention to detail
• Able to communicate well in oral and written form
• Good people skills
• Ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical users
• Excellent organization skills
• Comfortable working in a team environment
