Job Summary:


An initiative of the Atlanta University Center Art History + Curatorial Studies Collective (AUC Art Collective), the Early College Program in Art History and Curatorial Studies is a 4-week co-educational program designed to encourage rising junior and senior high school students of color to pursue undergraduate studies in art history and curatorial studies. Over 4-weeks (June 18 – July 15, 2022) students complete the Ways of Seeing: Art History, Curating, and Museums course for three (3) undergraduate credits.

This is a part-time, temporary, grant-funded position comprised of two components:. Will function as a Liaison 10 hrs/week February – June; and Instructor 30 hours/week June – August.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Liaison
· Syllabus development with the High Museum of Art
· Plan supplemental course activities
· Host online information sessions for applicants
· Serve on the review committee of applications

Instruction
· Teach weekly on-site lectures and engagements
· Build the CANVAS course website, uploading all course readings and required materials in
advance of the weekly sessions
· Respond to student e-mails or messages for course-related support in a timely manner
· Clarify readings and assignments through weekly office hours, in collaboration with the Graduate
and Teaching Assistants
· Mentor ECP students, Graduate and Teaching Assistants
· Oversee final exhibition projects, completed in partnership with the Education Department at the High Museum of Art
· Work in a collegial and cooperative manner with Program Administration

Required Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should possess an advanced graduate-level background in the fields of Art History, African American Studies, Museum Studies or Curatorial Studies; an understanding of pedagogy in art history; and a keen awareness of the topical issues related to supporting racial diversity initiatives in the visual arts.
Minimum Education: Masters Degree

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with High School student populations in an educational and museum environment is preferred.

Spelman faculty have a significant impact on the College’s mission to educate students to lead and serve their communities and the world. The College is strengthening its Faculty Development Program to be comprehensive – recruiting and retaining talented individuals who pursue creative, rigorous scholarship and course development within their disciplines and in multidisciplinary ventures.
