Job Title: Resident Director

Reports To: Director of Residence Life

Status: Exempt


General Description

The Mount Saint Mary College Residence Life Office serves a diverse on-campus population of 1000 residents. The Resident Director assists with the effective management of the residence life program.

Staff Development Responsibilities

1.    Oversee the daily operation of five upper class residence hall, housing approximately 265 resident students.

2.    Supervise a Resident Assistant student staff. Facilitate weekly 1:1 and RA Team meetings

3.    Conduct disciplinary conferences, resolving student conduct cases with both educational and disciplinary sanctions.

4.   Participate in an on-call duty rotation. Evening and weekend work will be required.

5.    Assist with departmental planning efforts and operational tasks, such as staff recruitment, staff training, and housing selection.

6.    Oversee and monitor the day-to-day programmatic and community development efforts for the residential community.

7.   Participate in the collaborative programming efforts of the Student Affairs Department.

8.   Other secondary duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Residence Life and/or Vice President for Students.

 

On-Call Responsibilities

1.   Participate in the RD on-call duty rotation as scheduled

2.   Document all incidents in a responsible and timely manner

3.   Maintain a working knowledge of and uphold all College and Housing policies and procedures

4.   Respond to all emergency situations, while on duty, as required

 

Administrative Responsibilities

5.   Develop and facilitate RA training sessions during August and January RA Training

6.   Oversee and evaluate residence hall programs, activities, and events

7.   Attend and actively participate in weekly one-on-one meetings with supervisor and Residence

Life Office team meetings

8.   Actively participate in Student Affairs Department events, meetings, assignments etc. as required

9.    Conduct thorough monthly health/safety inspections and closing/opening inspections of building(s)

10. Act as liaison between the Residence Life Office and other college offices as needed

11. Maintain daily in-area office hours

 

Requirements 

1.   A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

2.   Previous full time experience in Residence Life/Student Affairs is required

3.   Excellent communication skills

4.   Candidate MUST possess a valid driver's license

 

This is a full time, twelve-month position. Compensation includes a competitive salary, furnished apartment with utilities, cable, a meal plan (when school is in session). Comprehensive health insurance plan, 403(b) retirement package and tuition remission after one year of continuous employment.

Location. Newburgh, New York. The Mount is conveniently located in the Mid-Hudson Valley, midway between New York City and New York's capital city, Albany. The Mount is in Newburgh in Orange County, New York, on a beautiful campus that overlooks the western banks of the Hudson River. It's less than a mile from the intersection of the New York State Thruway and Interstate 84, and just a few blocks from entrance to the Newburgh side of the Beacon-Newburgh Bridge. The Mount is also easily accessible by plane, with Stewart Airport just minutes from campus. The Mid-Hudson Valley offers a scope of unparalleled natural beauty in a landscape of mountains, river and forest. Hiking, biking, walking, swimming, mountain climbing, skiing, snowboarding, and our park activities offer so many ways to explore the natural environment.

Enrollment/Student Body Profile. Our student body is made up of 2,700+ students representing over 16 states and several countries. 1,800 are traditional undergraduate students.

Academic Programs. The Mount offers 50 undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Our collaboration programs offer you a chance to earn a bachelor's degree, plus an advanced degree with schools like Fordham University, Pace University, and New York Medical College. The college also offers master's degrees in education, business, and nursing.

Faculty. Students learn from our faculty, the majority of whom hold a Ph.D. or the highest terminal degree in their field. Our Student/Faculty Ratio is 17 students:1 faculty member.
