This position will be responsible for the development, maintenance, and support of the colleges ERP and other software systems. The Business System Analyst reviews, analyzes, and evaluates users' needs to create system solutions that support overall business strategies. Documents system requirements, defines scope and objectives, and creates system specifications that drive system development and implementation. Works as a liaison between IT and users and have both business and technical expertise. Maintains a high level of technical expertise and stays abreast of current and developing trends in information and instructional technology through professional reading, attending industry conferences, and professional development (training, education, and participation in professional associations). This individual should have experience with requirements management and software development methodology and have worked extensively with business users, programmers, and Quality Assurance. This position will define the business requirements and technology-independent process and data models for technology solutions that meet the needs for various business areas and will bridge the gap between the business customer and the technology solution providers (e.g., vendors, infrastructure team, and development team)

Specific Duties and ResponsibilitiesSPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:

  • Understanding and documenting business processes and workflows and their relationships to current and future software solutions.
  • Partnering with business users to fully surface their requirements, conducting interviews with key project stakeholders and document, and presenting the results.
  • Assisting business users, project managers and IT leadership in optimizing the scope, benefits, and risks of proposed projects; help manage expectations of users and management.
  • Defining use cases to articulate new functional software needs and the roles of each class of application user.
  • Analyzing the impact of change requests.
  • Supporting traceability from requirements through to QA; assisting in the definition of test plans and testing strategies and in the creation of test cases.
  • Assisting in the definition of roll out, training and user support plans.
  • Creating and/or reviewing manuals, procedures, and related user documentation; ensuring documentation is targeted to the appropriate audience.
  • Presenting concepts in a concise and focused manner, including narrative, process diagrams, role and accountability diagrams and business-focused story boards.
  • Maintain a strong collaborative relationship with the Information Management team and Staff, Faculty, Students, Consultants, Contractors, and Software Vendors.
  • Provide ERP and other software problem research and resolution, coordination of application support, vendor support and management, enhancement requirement gathering and documentation.
  • Apply reporting and workflow tools to business applications to improve work output and business processes.
  • Conduct requirements research and analysis related to integrations. Develop and support application integrations.
  • Identify and achieve efficiencies through technological workflow improvements.
  • Assist in the development of project tasks that support goals, time frames, identify limitations, risks, contingencies, staffing, and other resources .
  • Adhere to policies and procedures as defined by information technology and security management and leadership.
  • Provide information / documentation to IT Helpdesk technicians/student workers, and others within IMT to assist in supporting systems.
  • Support departmental staff and administration with the identification, evaluation, recommendation, selection, support, and maintenance of systems solutions.
  • Support Information Technology and Security in ISO 27001 related practices to ensure the security and protection of university assets and data.
  • Provides level 2 support for the Colleague integrated data system and other applications, particularly those that facilitate reporting and workflow.

    Performs other related work as required. Minimum Education and TrainingMINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • Bachelor's degree in business, management, accounting, statistics, information technology, preferred, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training
  • A minimum of 3 years related work experience.
  • Experience performing business analyst functions, such as writing functional design specifications, configuring software, executing test scripts, implementing solutions and providing ongoing support. Minimum Qualifications and Standards RequiredMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of relational database reporting tools.
  • Experience working directly with end users in a production support environment.
  • Ability to present ideas, both orally and in written form.
  • Solid customer service and organizational skills.
  • Must be highly proficient at troubleshooting, and developing detailed documentation.
  • Must be able to understand the client’s business processes and the capabilities/limitations of the business applications used.
  • Make recommendations that help solve business problems in the most efficient and effective manner.
  • Ability to turn business requirements into technical specifications so that other IT staff members can use these technical specifications to modify existing or develop new application functions.
  • Experience working in project teams
  • Interviewing and listening skills to elicit detailed requirements
  • Analytical skills for transforming defined business needs into software requirements
  • Verbal and written communication skills, ability to create effective requirements documents and review them with key project stakeholders at multiple levels of the organization.
  • Basic understanding of software design and development.
    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience programming, coding, and/or scripting.
  • Experience with MS-SQL tools and scripting.
  • Work experience in higher education operations or administration.
  • Excellent higher education functional knowledge as well as a strong technical background.
  • An understanding of key business functions in higher education (e.g., student financial aid, recruiting, admissions, registration, student financials and advising).
  • Minimum of 1 year related work experience with a major ERP system (preferred is Ellucian Colleague).
    Physical Requirements:

    The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. may require occasional sedentary work
