Normal Work Schedule:

6:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. depending on crew assignment. Max 24 hours per week.

Job Summary:

The Temporary General Laborer will provide labor assistance to full time personnel in Capital Planning and Facilities responding to typical work orders which requires moving furniture, documents, fixtures, computers, boxes, and all manner of other objects from one location to another. The Temporary General Laborer will also set up events for campus activities, maintain campus grounds and athletic facilities, and Building Services tasks such as pressure washing, debris collection, general cleaning, etc. Responsibilities involve physical labor that is conducted out of doors in all weather conditions and indoors. Tasks may occasionally include those on a semi-skilled level. Duties will be assigned in detail by an immediate supervisor and are subject to frequent inspection.

Essential Functions:

  • Work and communicate effectively with diverse populations
  • Use diplomacy and discretion when giving out information and referring callers and visitors; deal with the public in a pleasant but effective manner
  • Meet schedules and deadlines related to the role
  • Demonstrate flexibility in approaching tasks
  • Develop and maintain professional work relationships with co-workers, faculty, students, and the general JSU community
  • Operate pressure cleaning devices that create 2,600 lbs. of pressure, carts, dollies, pallet jacks, banding machine, and other equipment necessary to the job
  • Lift, bend, stoop, climb stairs, kneel, crawl, carry and transport objects of various sizes and weights ranging from boxes of books and copy machine paper to office furniture and large equipment
  • Hand carry small objects
  • Climb ladders and stairs; carry, assemble, climb, and disassemble scaffolding
  • Bend and reach while painting curbs, transporting objects, or performing maintenance or cleaning tasks; work outside in all weather conditions
  • Follow oral instructions from supervisor
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduation or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
